Los Almendros II

I too noticed that Los Almendros had closed on 6th when we were in Playa in December. But I also happened across a small hole in the wall restaurant on Jaurez called Los Almendros II. I don't know if they are affiliated with the one on 6th but going by the choice of name, I would think that they are.

I didn't have time to check the place out, but for all of you diehard Los Almendros fans it might be worth checking out.

It was on the right hand side of Juarez walking towards Hwy 307. Not sure what the cross streets were but it was closer to 30th than 5th ave.

I am really bummed that it is closed. We really enjoyed eating there. We had great food and great service.

Where are these two places located?

La Casita de los Guisos
20th avenue, on the East side of the street, between 4th and 6th streets. Check out the thread in this forum with their name for more details and pictures!

Bloody Chicas Kitchen, across the street from Mom's hotel on 4th street between 25th and 30th. Also has it's own thread on this forum.

Los Almendros

I believe there is still a Los Almendros in Cancun Centro, though I dont know if it is related. It had been located behind the bullring, but according to my source, it is now at Av. Tulúm #66 Sm 23. Tel 887-1332

They had an excellent turkey dish whose name escapes me, but I remember it best for its outstanding pico de gallo - best I'd ever had!

Made with Turkey? Then Relleno Negro comes to my mind. A very dark almost black sauce (not spicy).

No, not with Turkey, just with turkey It was a turkey stew or casserole, but not relleno negro, nor was it pavo guisado or pavo estofado. But I recall pavo was in the name of the dish. It may have been cazuela de pavo but I'm not sure. But if you happen to go, just ask what their signature turkey dish is.

And dont forget to try the pico de gallo!
