I guess the beach to go to would be Playa Norte? If so, then that's where we are headed. I'd also like to do a little shopping. I hear it might be less expensive than Playa. I think the street is called Hidalgo. I am really excited about doing this!!
Playa Norte beach is the one that I have been to, and it's beautiful and great for happy hours! I highly recommend it. I'm not sure what other beaches might be good as well becuase I need to do some more exploring this year. I'm looking forward to mabe also checking out the town and would love to do a little shopping too. Do you know how much a golf cart is for the day? I have only heard that it is more expensive than renting a car, but that leaves a lot open to interpretation. I guess we could always just walk too. It isn't that big of an island, and it might be fun to explore on foot.

Welcome! My wife Darcie and I will be in Playa for our first time in March. Can't wait! You're right - this site is addicting but I haven't decided if it makes the time seem faster or slower until our trip. I'm definitely getting less work done during the day.

Welcome to the forum! I have had periods of addiction to this forum, usually worsening as the trip gets closer. There are some very nice folks on this forum, and they are nice in person as well! After months of "sobriety". I am now back! Off the forum wagon! Maybe we'll see you in Playa. My wife Susan and I are there at the same time as you guys. Maybe we can round up a few other peeps for a get together at one of the bars (Beer Bucket, Tequila Barrel or La Rana Cansada) one of the nights we are all there. Cheers! Doc

Hello

HI Nikki, My husband (Derek), and I (Annette) are in Playa April 10-17th. You are staying in the 2 hotels I really wanted to stay at during our visit. Please let me konw what you think of both hotels after your trip. We are staying at the Riu Palace, I am looking forward to it. I've heard really good things about the Palace. Are you planning any day trips? We will spend a day in town researching hotels on the beach, hope to see you there.

Nikki, check into hopping onto a Funjet charter. You can usually get a non-stop from MKE or ORD for 199 R/T if your dates match one of the charters. There are plenty of them right now.

MKE-CUN: Sun., Mon., Wed. & Fri: $199 R/T (Jan & Feb.)
MDW-CUN: Sun., Wed., & Fri: $199 R/T & $249 R/T (Depending on dates)
MKE-CZM: $249 (February)

So as you can see, if the Charter dates fit your travel dates, it may be worth a shot!

I've gotten a lot of great suggestions from other people's trip reports, so I'm definitely planning on taking lots of pictures and posting a report so I can give something back. Shangri La Caribe gets a ot of love from people on this forum, but there is not a lot of info available about Mosquito Beach (probably because it is relatively new) so I'm happy to let you guys know how we like it. I've heard from several other people that will be in ton that week also on other posts, and there was even mention of organizing a peep meet, so hopefully we will get a chance to see you there. Right now, day trips we are thinking of are Cozumel and Isla Mujeres, plus maybe an excursion or two.

I haven't booked any tours yet. I thought that the Tulum tour offered through playa.info looked great, but it's only offered twice a week and neither day will really work for us. We always do a catamaran trip/booze cruise and will either book it with Fatcat through playa.info or go with the Blue Water Sailing Tour out of Cozumel. Here's their link:

I would say that I am leaning toward the Fatcat because it leaves from the marina in Puerto Aventuras which I have visited in the past and LOVE. There are some cute little shops and The Dolphin Discovery place is right there so you can sit in the beautiful marina, have a drink, get something to eat, and watch the dolphins play.

I think the Fatcat tour returns to the marina around 3p.m. so we would probably hang out in Purto Aventuras for a few hours afterward rather than head back to Playa with the tour group.
Other trips we're thinking about are a day trip to Isla Mujeres to hang out on Playa Norte for the day (have done this before and loved it ) and also a trip over to Cozumel to get a taxi for the day so we can check out the east side beaches along with Coconuts and Mescalito's beach bars (have never done this - can't wait ). What day are you thinking of doing the Fatcat trip?

What to do?

We decided if we do a catamaran trip it will be the Fat Cat Trip. I've seen some reports on the forum and I've only read good things about it. I like to snorkel but my husband doesn't so being with a group would make me feel a little more comfortable. I'm not sure what days they are planning to go out while we are there. The days that would work for us would be 12,13,or 16th. I guess I will check with them when it gets closer to April. I can't get Playa off my mind
