Health care always comes up and is always a big loser as in the past.
What worries me about a national healthcare, will it come to the point of discriminating against smokers, drinkers, and drug users? You can already see the trend of smoking bans, and now trans-fats. Will we all have to eat tofu to be qualified to have govt. health insurance?
I think there are much better ways to make insurance more affordable. Starting first with getting rid of the lawyers

You have something against women in general or is it just Hillary?

They will vote for Hillary, but will be hoping he has some influence over her. Hillary as a stand alone candidate has the same chance as a snow ball in hell. I hope she is the dems choice, a good melt down will be fun to watch.[/quote]

Naw I've been away hunting, the season is drawing to an end so expect more of me the next few months---unless I go to Mexico to hunt doves or something exotic like that.
Folks forgetting is a natural thing & I do not depend on that happening but rather expect it, after all they are looking at Hillary as a possible presidential candidate.

Stayed awake for Letterman last night ... Barack Obama was the lead-off guest.
Very impressive appearance. His comments seemed truly unscripted, his humor genuine and spontaneous ... he seemed very comfortable in his own skin. It was striking how much it reminded me of the tapes I have seen of JFK's press conferences.
And it wasn't an "oh, I'm on Letterman, I'd better be funny" kind of thing. The conversation was, for a show like this, fairly substantial.

I especially liked his comment about how he is meeting people on the campaign trail, who voice to him their fear that America has lost its position in the world, and will never recover it. He said that he feels that America can come back, that one of the reasons the world is down on it right now is because we, as a country, are held to a higher standard than anyone else -- and we should celebrate that fact.

I'm thinking he's my guy. ANy number of interesting options for his VP.

I am hoping for a real reawakening with this campaign.

Personally, I wish they would take 6 months off and then restart the campaign.
Healthcare does seem to be an imprtant talking point in this election. But, is it what Americans want? About 15% of Americans are uninsured? Certainly some of the uninsured already get some form of free healthcare. These people would probably gain a little with a Hillary health care right? Do the 85% gain anything out of this?
Also, how many uninsured actually try to get insurance? I would guess that the 15% unisnured number is really less when you factor in that some people choose not to get insurance.
So is Healthcare really something that will get someone elected?

Nope. I think the main issues will be the war in Iraq and the economy, in that order.

As far as health care goes, I don't think its insured vs. uninsured only, I think its also the COST of insurance and the costs of health care. By the way, where did you get the figure of 15% uninsured? I would think it would be higher than that...

The cost of insurance has become a big one for corporate USA. More people are losing their insurance or paying a lot more for it cause businesses can no longer afford to provide it the way they used to. It is a growing issue.

When the Business Roundtable forms a coalition with the Service Employees International union to take on an issue - that makes me think it has some staying power.

Is there something wrong with the economy??? It's been a banner year for us..in fact the last 6 years hacve been our best. Slim works in the freight business and they had to buy more trucks and hire more drivers to keep up with all the business. Slim has had the best year ever in sales.
