That's one of your best ones in a while, Scott, imo.
Again, I agree with Dartay. (Make a note of it!) Do a poll of the public or of conservative voters, if you like, and ask them to choose between Al Gore and Hillary Clinton. I'll bet you my last nickel that Gore wins, and wins by a wide margin. And again, not talking right or wrong here or anything like that, just talking the reality of public opinion and reaction, the way I see it, anyway. Seems like Edwards is already scrambling. He'd do better to bide his time, I think, as that scrambling just seems to confirm that he's not so viable a candidate. He needs to take a page out of Obama's book, in that way, I think. It would serve him better than looking like the fight starter among the leading candidates. Both Clinton and Obama have it right: occasional light jabs, maybe, but focus on unity among Dems and the greater evil over in the other party. Course they may have an easier job of it, each one realizing s/he could if nothing else end up the VP candidate for the other (though a bit hard to imagine Clinton accepting that if she loses out to Obama, I admit). Edwards is like the fifth wheel in that little relationship, or the odd man out in the love triangle, or something. Steve Steve |

I just finished watching the debates on C-Span. Rather interesting that when Sen Gravelle (sp) mentioned they were all responsible since they are in leadership positions, everyone pretty much ignored him...same held true when he came back with robbing the Social Security fund.
Don't get me wrong, I think he has a snow ball's chance, but I did find it refreshing to hear someone thorw a couple of "look in the mirror" spears out there! |

There would be one cool, and wonderfully ironic, thing if Gore were to be drafted into running for 2008. My one big criticism of the national Democratic party is its tendency to discard failed presidential candidates; unlike the Republican Party, which tends to be more forgiving, and give failed candidates (Nixon, Reagan, Bush 41, Dole) a second try.
Gore could be the first "recycled" Democratic Presidential candidate! Now it has clicked for me! |

I am not at all afraid of Hillary as a candidate. Her negatives are over-rated and I predict she'd defeat any Republican currently in the field. Against a Republican conservative (Huckabee, Thomspon or Newt) Hillary wins big. Against one of the Republican liberals (Rudy or Mitt), it is a closer race, but still a win. Among the leading Democratic candidates, Hillary is the only centrist, being to the right of Obama and Edwards.
I think Edwards would lose to either Giuliani or Mitt. Barack has never been in a tough election - my God the Republicans imported the ultra-right-wing Alan Keyes from Maryland to run against Obama for the Senate in Illinois after the Republican primary winner self-destructed. I understand there are people who do not like her and I understand that the vast right-wing conspiracy would be energized . Bring them on. They are outta touch with most AmericansGore is a winner at what he is doing. He should keep doing it. He is a loser politically, and should not throw his hat in the ring. That is my current analysis. It could and likely will change over the next year. |
