Following up on that same report...

Quote:
Edwards revealed that he prays -- and sins -- every day. The crowd gasped loudly when moderator Soledad O'Brien asked Edwards to name the biggest sin he ever committed, and he won their applause when he said he would have a hard time naming one thing.
OH, MY!!!

Skate save, folks, and a beauty, too!!!

Hillary admitted that she's prayed to lose weight! I actually found that honest and human; very relatable to women voters. I know the CNN special made seakony barfy and wrecked her dinner, but I thought they all came across in a positive light!

So you didn't exactly come away with the B word in mind for her, there?

I would have liked to hear someone say they are a secular humanist, grounded in existentialism, and thought religion was nice mythology without which popular culture could not be understood.

Nope. In fact, the strident responses to her, especially when they are based on gender, make me cringe. Just think, when Cheney shot that guy in the face if the response was: "what a MAN thing to do!?"

Heard there are two new Hillary bios coming out, one good one not so good...

Haven't read them, probably won't, but did read a review on each of them. Neither comes out sounding pro-Hillary. If that's what you meant by good? Otherwise, the reviewers thought both books were lazy rehashing of what is already known.

Sometimes you remind me of "Just Jack"
I'm sorry to interrupt the love fest between Seakony and Ryberg, but I have a question about the line I highlighted in Seakony's post above.

Is Seakony inferring that second hand smoke is not dangerous to people and that the only reason we think second hand smoke is bad is because of some biased studies that have been done?

If you put people in a box full of smoking monkeys, 24 hours a day, second hand smoke is bad for you. If you come into casual contact, as most people do, it is no more dangerous than breathing in car fumes, industrial smoke or any of the other normal carcinogens one breathes in on a daily basis.

As someone who believes that prayer should be reserved for non-selfish requests (i.e., for others or for improvement in my character defects which cause others to suffer), I don't see how substituting prayer for Jenny Craig works in her favor.

I think these folks might disagree. This is from the AMA website:

Secondhand smoke causes approximately 3,400 lung cancer deaths and 22,700-69,600 heart disease deaths in adult nonsmokers in the United States each year.4
A study found that nonsmokers exposed to environmental smoke were 25 percent more likely to have coronary heart diseases compared to nonsmokers not exposed to smoke.5
Nonsmokers exposed to secondhand smoke at work are at increased risk for adverse health effects. Levels of ETS in restaurants and bars were found to be 2 to 5 times higher than in residences with smokers and 2 to 6 times higher than in office workplaces.6

Well, there probably isn't much that would help her with you, "as someone who believes....." Not much that is within the realm of the possible anyway, absent a Saul of Tarsus moment on your part

Well, I think the idea of prayer is universal. I don't know of any religion or faith where you appeal directly to the higher power in order to change your appearance.

The notion that weight loss is only related to personal appearance is hard for me to understand.

It is much more related to health and to appropriate treatment of the body as one of God's temples, as the Christian bible encourages its followers.

If I were a praying person, and I am not, any prayers related to weight loss would be directly related to blood pressure and Type II diabetes control rather than my looks, which are pretty good now.

Oops, were I a Christian, that last part would be the sin of vanity, wouldn't it?

Has Hillary ever appeared to be overweight to the point of bad health, to you? Or does she fear that a few extra kilos won't look good on camera?

Oh, if I had a dollar for every person I met that I wanted to do this to, I would be a rich man!

I'll be sure to avoid the boxes full of smoking monkeys for extended periods of time.
