I just poured myself a couple of ounces of a good Port to celebrate the caucus before retiring for the evening.
I guess I am glad you laughed, but Shirley's mention deserves better than that. You may be a bit too young to remember the courage and eloquence of Congresswoman Chisholm, but it would benefit anyone to familiarize themselves with her story. I thought it was an entirely inappropriate response, but after thinking about it, I may have some inkling of where you may have been coming from. Last edited by roni : 01-03-2008 at 11:23 PM. |

I know who Shirley Chisholm is (though I was of single-digit age at the time) and was not showing her any disrespect. It's the other tack I was taking. ![]() And incidentally, happy new year to you and your wife. Hope 2008 results in some progress on your aforementioned single issue, for her sake and that of many others. Steve |

from CNN's political ticker - if Obama can do the same think in New Hampshire (where independents can vote in either primary) , South Carolina and the majority of the Super Duper Tuesday states then he will be the clear choice for the Democratic nomination. That is a pretty big if, but by no means an impossible one.
begin quoted material It isn’t just that Barack Obama won Iowa decisively last night over Hillary Clinton and John Edwards. It’s the way he won: by beating his opponents across a stunning demographic spectrum. Obama won Democrats, Republicans and independents; men and women; and virtually every income bracket. People most worried about the Iraq war gave him their vote. So did voters most concerned about the state of the economy. And those whose top priority is fixing the nation’s health care system. Among Republicans, Huckabee pulled off a similar showing. As expected, he won among evangelicals. But he also scored big with voters in every income bracket except for those earning over $100,000 a year, and among every age group. The big questions as the campaigns descend on New Hampshire this morning: Can Obama convert his Iowa win into a similarly dominant Granite State showing? And we now know how Huckabee fares in a state where more than half the voters are evangelical. Can he make a similar showing in less-pious climes? |
