Because he has maintained his lead...both in NC and nationally. (I was actually speaking about his national lead when I wrote that)NC will help Obama....A lot. You do recognize the similarities to PA., yes? Last edited by Jacko : 05-04-2008 at 08:34 PM. |

Simple faulty reasonng to say the race is tightening, or to assume that that means the outcome is in question. It ignores the whole of the campaign up to the point. It's like looking at a football game in the final quarter and saying, "wow, team Y has really tightened up the game and is playing team X pretty evenly over these last couple of drives" and acting as if that can make some difference, even though team Y did so well over the entire course of the game that they're up by 3-4 touchdowns.
Many is the fan who has noted how well his team plays over the final stretch of the season, though not well enough to make up for all the losses they suffered earlier. But they understand that it's how you do over the whole course of the season that's what matters. Early season wins or first quarter points are hardly irrelevant just because they're not as recent. I am reading the polls as they come out and reporting on them. The polls are not pre-programmed, they report what they find. I report them. I do a little interpretation, but not much. I particularly like when the data are disaggregated by various demographic variables. That is when you really learn some important things. Politics is a business of numbers, and it is important to pay attention to numbers as they change and emerge. Got nothing to do with pre-conceived notions or pre-programmed whatever you were insulting with ![]() ![]() I am really offended by the way, why don't you just go ahead and call me a dirty big-footed white boy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Look at the graph and tell me that looks like he has not lost significant ground in North Carolina. Just tell me that. |

And many are the times fans have watched their team go into halftime about even and still in it (think Super Tuesday), then watched in horror as it seemed they didn't have much more than that in them and started getting blown out in the 3rd quarter and following (think Obama's 11 in a row following Super Tuesday in Feb).
It's worse in Clinton's case, of course, as they were so foolish as to trash talk and claim it would all be over at halftime and have no game plan for the second half. Furthermore, continuing the metaphor, they announced that field goals (small states, caucus states, etc) didn't, to their minds, really count. They just sort of forgot to clear that point with the rule makers and scorekeepers, and watched seemingly frozen as their opponent racked up a ton of them. Now it's late in the 4th quarter and frantic scrambling and never say die spirit have kept them from losing more ground. That doesn't stop the clock, however, or erase the lead that has been run up on them. They blew it. They were heavy favorites and they blew it, to an opponent who took the game seriously and executed an intelligent game plan almost flawlessly while they were screwing around. Doesn't matter how well they play in the final couple of minutes left. That cannot make up for everything before that, and its delusional wishful thinking to suggest otherwise. Steve |
