As I said earlier this morning, some Americans, it appears, need to have a black president, and possibly more than the country needs any president to help resolve its current difficulties.

I'm thinkin' increased memory retention along with a more thorough study of the world and it's history would work wonders on the electorate.

I recommend healthy doses of practical mathematics to promote numeracy and rhetorical analysis, as well, so that it cannot (as a teaching adviser of mine once put it) be done to them so easily.

That's covered in the seminar on the difference between accidental misspeaking and purposely lying.

Sweetie, you're right. None of those suggestions would make voters feel inferior and flock to the GOP rather than face the wrath of our elitist scorn for their stupidity.

I guess it's lucky for me that it's not my job to pull them in! I leave that to those admirable individuals who are much better than I in terms of patience, such as Obama (in this case), or to others faced with similar problems in other areas of the world, such as the Dalai Lama, or to similar problems in times past, to King and Rosa Parks and Jackie Robinson.

I'm not personally much of a turn the other cheek-er, myself...

To borrow a phrase from higher ed speak: Retention is everyone's job! We could apply that to our political party and see what happens?

Good on Obama too for apologizing for the "sweetie" comment; they played his voice message to the reporter on MSNBC.

I don't know I think much of the lack of knowledge on the part of some Americans comes from an over reliance on broadcast media. The broadcast media here do a very poor job of covering things in depth. It was better years ago. The CBC and BBC do a better job covering background and depth than any of the American broadcasters imo.

I certainly understand the reasoning. Don't think you want to assign me there, though. My strength would be much more along the lines of a caller-outer. I admire those folks, but that ain't me. You go for it.

Reminds me of that line in that excellent old Branagh/Thomson flick, where Mike Church, the Branagh characterm is talking to the weird, profanity spewing psychiatrist-turned-meat packer played by Robin Williams:

Quote:
- Mr Church?

- Yeah?

- Someone's either a smoker or a nonsmoker, there's no in-between. The trick is to find out which one you are and be that.

- Well, I'm trying to quit.

- Don't tell me you're trying. People who say that are *****s who cannot commit. Find out which one you are. Be that. That's it. If you're a nonsmoker, you'll know.

- Thank you. Nice place you got here.

- F*****' fruitcake.

Whenever I get surveyed I make sure I'm part of the plus or minus 5%. I lie.
