Clinton: Obama will be 'good friend to Israel'

Clinton address AIPAC Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama would be "a good friend to Israel" if elected, Sen. Hillary Clinton told a pro-Israel lobbying group Wednesday.

Though Clinton has yet to concede the Democratic race and spoke Wednesday of what she would do as president, she told the America-Israel Public Affairs Committee that Obama "understands what is at stake here."

"It has been an honor to contest these primaries with him. It is an honor to call him my friend. And let me be very clear: I know that Senator Obama will be a good friend to Israel," the New York senator and former first lady said.

"I know that Senator Obama shares my view that the next president must be ready to say to the world: America's position is unchanging, our resolve unyielding, our stance nonnegotiable. The United States stands with Israel, now and forever," she said.

It would be welcomed by Barack Obama and his campaign - to have the most popular president of the second half of the 20th century campaign for him would be great and welcomed. To suggest otherwise is, IMO, well, I am not going to write it

Actually I heard more talk the other day, I think in reference to whatever article it is that Bill is so upset about, to the effect that again he may have undergone a bit of a personality change as a result of his heart operation. They were talking like this does really happen in some cases or to some extent.

We can all engage in psycho-babble generated by publicity loving doctors who have never examined the particular patient before or after their surgery.

Heck, we could engage in psycho-babble about each other if we had less self-restraint than we do. We do not because we are basically decent people.

Show some decency to the Clintons, for a change, okay?

Really I believe there was a JFK and a Ronald Reagan. And if counting by electoral votes Tricky Dick has them both beat.

I was counting Reagan and Nixon. JFK did not serve long enough to be rated.

I believe that is an old wive's tale, and at any rate associated with heart transplants. Links to any scientific studies or just a general slam against Bill?

He did serve long enough to stave off one of the most serious theats ever to the US and the world. He started the program that put a man (actually several) on the moon and gave us Teflon. He put into motion the desgregation movement that LBJ takes credit for.

JFK vs: WJC; you decide.

Steve, please don't take this personally.

I have the audacity of hope. My candidate won!

Now I'm hoping you'll please, please take a break from slamming the Clintons. I have mentioned before I am not a big fan of theirs. We desperately need their supporters if we are to win the election.

Hilary Clinton does not read this forum.Don't ask me how I know this or I'll have you sent to GITMO. Some of her supporters do. I am all for defeating the fasc..err... I mean Republican candidate with the "new politics" of Obama. I wish you'd follow his lead.

Thank You

I'm not slamming Bill. Even some continuing strong supporters of his here and elsewhere have wondered what is going on with him. Found some links discussing it online and there seemed to be something, though it may be psychological more than physiological. To wit:

Quote:
Heart surgery . . . can change someone's personality, pretty much like any psychological trauma. Sometimes there can be changes in the brain related to the surgery that cause personality changes, but more often it's just the shock of recognizing that you have a serious condition.

Depression may also be a factor. Depression is fairly common following heart surgery or heart attacks, when patients feel scared or helpless. Counseling or support groups may help him to come to terms with his condition.

You don't think he's been a bit... different?

On the other hand, some analyst the other night was suggesting that it's just Bill Clinton unvarnished that we've been seeing now, because he doesn't have as many, or as experienced, handlers buffering his raw-er tendencies from the press, these days.

It's a bit like the conservatives here who take valid criticism of Bush, automatically label it "Bush bashing," and write it off.

You want that candidate we both like to win, I think you should be concerned about things such as what of late loose cannon Bill Clinton might say or do when campaigning for him (after all, there seems to be a general consensus that he hurt his wife's campaign in many instances, right?), or such things as that ad the RNC already has out when considering the question of whether Hillary Clinton ought to be on the ticket. And you want that candidate to win, you better damned well want the other candidate to properly concede and get off the stage so he can.

I see no less reason to automatically write off your criticism of it as being just Clinton bashing, frankly.

Thank you.

This last part of your post sounds a bit more likely, Steve. Sort of a Tom Cruise situation like when he fired his publicist and started squealing and jumping on chairs on Oprah's chairs and openly talking about Scientology- generally letting everyone know precisely how crazy he really is.

But still, not very scientific to say something like that 'heart surgery changes one's personality'....that is kind of vague and a no-brainer at the same time- of course it would, likely as often for the better as for the worse, too I bet. New lease on life, improved appreciation of every day, etc.

and yeah, JL is right- enough Clinton bashing already, it was tiresome about 600 pages ago. (edit- there is valid criticism and then there is bashing....some of yours may seem valid to you, but it comes off as bashing when you say it repeatedly, if that makes any sense?)

You mean the Cuban Missile Crisis?

If you are referring to the Cuban Missile Crisis in the first part of you post, your statement is tantamount to saying that the arsonist who pulls a person from the building he set ablaze is a hero. Kennedy was viewed as a weakling by Khrushchev, and when we sent missiles to Turkey as a provocation, the missiles to Cuba ensued. Kennedy promised to attack Cuba if they shot down any of our U-2's over the island, which they did, and we did not. Kennedy is viewed as a hero because he avoided war, but the truth is he almost destroyed the world due to his hopeless naivete.

Marilyn was certainly much hotter than Monica

I reckon this means you won't even take even forty-eight hours off?

That's OK. Please yourself.

But please ask yourself if it's increasing the chance of a Democratic victory. Nevermind, I know you think it is.
