That's it. We're going to Luby's for lunch. You bring some wine in a box, I'll bring some wine in a brown paper bag, and we'll get happy.

So you think drug addict drunken single parents that can't provide food, clothing, shelter for thier children is not a form a child abuse? Gee here I was thinking that if parents truly loved their children, they would want them to have the best...not the worst life has to offer. How many pro-bonos this week?

I think both paying and non payring kids got the same lunch. I dont think the paying kids got a different lunch. At least not in any school cafeteria I ever ate in. We all ate the same food (if you could call it that) !!
Tappy, I love you dear, but THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT!!! The attempted directive by the Reagan administration (which was NOT implemented after the massive public outcry - remember?) was designed to give the kids getting free lunches a DIFFERENT lunch (one WITHOUT "real" vegetables) than those kids that were paying!!! I know you are younger than I am, but don't you remember this issue? THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE CONTROVERSY!!! (insert emoticon of smiley face playfully bonking himself on the forehead with a shoe)

Of COURSE you don't remember different lunches. Of COURSE Rita, our resident ex-cafeteria lady doesn't remember different lunches. There WERE no different lunches because the public outcry of outrage and disgust forced the Reagan administration to withdraw its directive!

Despite lip service to the contrary, in the US we really do not give a shit about youth. We send them to second rate schools, with useless, tattered textbooks, no science labs, little arts or music education and some of us are fine with them having empty stomachs as long as it mean our individual tax burden is lower.

Some of these son-of-a-bitches have the unmitigated gall to claim they are followers of Jesus H.Christ or other religious dudes.

Young people are smart. They know that their society, as a whole, generally does not give a rat's ass about how they are doing, about whether they have enough to eat, a safe place to live, the basics of a minimally decent life.

There is a price to pay for this. It is a high price.

It is not as bad here as in some places, where 12 year olds are given automatic weapons and drugs and are taught to kill the enemy; or where the USA as occupiers have not been able to maintain basic services and safety for children.

There are high prices to pay for this.

If that's all there is my friends
then let's keep dancing
let's break out the booze

Life is the Theatre of the the Absurd
No doubt.

Come back now all ye neo-cons and low tax lovers and tell me how silly my post is. F*ck those young people around the world.

Hundreds of billions for immoral pre-emptive wars
Not much for basic human decency
for human and humane compassion

That is a campaign 2008 issue

Glory be to George and Dick,
Masters of immorality in the public square.
I wonder how many poor kids we could feed with one days worth of the Iraq war budget?

I'd love to buy your uncle Ross a beer.

I am not an ex-cafeteria lady, and don't try to insult them either..they are hard working for little pay. I was a substitute for 6 years and had plenty of cafeteria duty. I saw it , lived it...
Where did I say anything about ketchup? All I said was they throw away their lunch and eat their ice cream...re-read my earlier posts before you go spouting off.
How many pro-bonos this week/

Never heard about reagans plan and never saw the lunches change

Please dont be condescending. (and I am quite sure I am older than you) and I do remember the whole issue. I was just pointing out that was what Rita was saying (or at least I think that is what she was saying.) to try to clarify it for you. No need to use bold print and big letters.

You quit giving me a hard time, or you're getting NOTHING for lunch but KETCHUP!

P.S. Seriously, my paralegal has been working VERY hard lately. I want to take her to that Polish place next week. PM me if you've got any free days to meet there! I think Kelli might be able to join us if we go on Monday.

Or anyplace in Rice village is fine. My parents found a good dim sum place there, if you're into that.

I think a relatively balanced presentation of the subject appears here...do you disagree with this? Is this commentary biased in your opinion?
(yes, this is straight dope dot com )
