Back from ASP
We arrived back last Sunday evening(
late late late) and have had computer issues since we got home. Hopefully everything is okay now and I can download our photos.Had a WONDERFUL two weeks and got spoiled and pampered by the ASP staff.Ate, drank, lounged, swam and repeated as necessary. This time we managed to have dinner at the Hacienda (the Mexican restaurant) four times without having to wait in line. I was determined that we would eat there this trip because our previous two trips to ASP we never managed to get in to this restaurant at all. Took side trips to Playa del Carmen (and shopped and shopped) and one day took a taxi to Puerto Aventuras and decided to walk back. BIG MISTAKE Got ourselves lost in all the construction sites just south of ASP but managed to find our way back in after finding an ASP security guard who helped us find a way onto the resort property.Building 0 is now what I would consider totally useless on the southside of the building. Whatever is going up right (and I mean right ) beside building 0 is almost on the property line. Took some pictures of that so will have to get my photos downloaded to show you what I mean. We were in building 8 third floor and were happy with the room and view. Managed to put way to much bubble bath in the Jacuzzi (again) and I think this time had to be my personal best--Probably close to three feet of bubbles and yes I have the pictures to prove it The not-really-a-timeshare sharks tried to get us again but we just kept saying no and after the fourth attempt they finally understood the part of NO we kept saying. Didn't really bother us much, I guess some people let the little things ruin their vacation but we certainly didn't. The day before we left one of the managers who we had originally met a few years ago at the Moon Palace and is now working at ASP came to our room and gave us a gift of a bottle of Tequilla to take home to share with our friends. He also gave us a bottle of the white wine that we always had with our lunches and dinners. Lets see---one bottle of wine for lunch, one bottle of wine for dinner X 14 days = 28 bottles of wine I wrapped and wrapped them well packed them in our checked luggage and they both arrived unbroken. We drank the wine already and have friends coming over tonight to help us empty the Tequila We originally were supposed to get picked up at 7AM on Sunday morning but our travel rep called and said pickup would be at 8:45AM. We thought great, now we can have a leisurely breakfast and checkout around 8:30AM. Went for breakfast at MoMoNoHana which was our usual place to have breakfast (we became regulars there for breakfast and when one of the waiters or waitresses saw us arriving every morning they would get our dos Mimosas grandes and bring them to our table as we were being seated .) Had a nice peaceful breakfast and then the waiters came up and covered our eyes with napkins and when they removed them the manager and waiters and waitresses had a plate of small desserts with a lit candle and a bottle of champagne for us to drink on the way to the airport.Well that brought on the tears from me So we checked out (the day before we paid off my spa treatments bill ) and proceeded to wait for our pickup. And wait and wait and wait TimHorton went in to talk to a guest services rep who called our travel company and was told that NOW our pickup was at 12:30PM So went back to the lobby and cracked open the bottle of champagne and drank it in the lobby (and we really were planning to share it with the others in our pickup van but unfortunately it was a hot morning and we polished it all off ourselves.) Along with dos cervaza con limon and dos mimosas So we finally get picked up and stopped to pick up a few more people at three different resorts, arrive at the airport and the flight is delayed AGAIN and AGAIN. Had two Corona con Limon at the Corona bar and there was some kinda football game on the TV that may people seem to be interested in. Finally started to board the plane at 4:45PM (which was when we were supposed to be landing back in Ontario. Then they anouced that we woudl be flying to Varadero, Cuba to drop off some passengers who were on the plane.50 minutes later we land in Varadero and everyone has to get off the plane, not just the Varadero passengers. We have to take the carry-on luggage get it x-rayed , go through the scanning and then upstairs to the Varadero terminal where fortunately the duty free shops and bars are open They accept our Canadian money (I had Cuban pesos at home, guess I should have brought that with me if I had known we were going to go there) so bought some Cuban cigars and had Havana Club Rum and coke while waiting to get on the plane AGAIN.Finally re-boarded and had a typical airline meal Arrived in Ontario at 11:45PM to the beginning of an ice storm so picked up our car in the parking lot and found a hotel to stay at overnight. The next morning (Monday) the ice is so thick on the car that TimHorton has to chip away at it for almost 40 minutes. Couldn't open any of the doors Finally arrived home after a slow drive on the 401 on icy pavement And that concludes TimHorton and timbit's excellent adventure 2007.
