Fishing in Akumal

How do you hook up with one of the locals to do some fishing on their panga boats? Anyone with a name or location?

You can try the local dive shops, most of them offer fishing tours. The ones that I have links for are www.akumal.com , www.akumaldivecenter.com , www.cenotes.com , and www.akumaldiveadventures.com

SKip the middleman, and head right for the main beach. If you hit the main beach and give one of the boats there even a sideways glance -- the owner will find you!

That is what Don and I usually do...we have talked to captains and booked trips for sometime in the following few days at both the Akumal main beach and right in Playa near the Grand Porto Real where all the pangas are on shore. Just go up and start talking and hash out a date/time and price.
The time we went at Akumal we didn't have much luck (just inshore fishing for 3 hours, in late Jan I think it was). Caught one little Sierra Mackerel, took it back to the Lol Ha and they cooked it up. It was pretty tasty though.
