So Tonya tells me yesterday that she got some new kind of haircut that makes your hair curl and stay that way. Anyone know what it's called or how to find someone who does it? Her hair looked great, btw!

I just noticed this, Kat.

When somewhere hot and humid, I use that Maybelline XXL waterproof mascara, the one in the black and white tube? (The waterproof one has a light blue lid on one end.)

I just bought the Maybelline yellow tube kind with shiny purple writing, it is really good too.

A haircut that makes your hair more curly? For me that is called a shorter, layered haircut.

I kinda hope not! I had just had a massage and my hair was in a cap and I was kinda greasy. Her friend had the camera out though so maybe (Tesla) Tonya'll post some when she gets home.

Find a hairstylist who specializes in curly hair. Mine is long still and she adds layers to help keep it just curly, as opposed to rosana rosana dana hair.

Riss- I'm still having a heck of a time finding a mascara I like. My lashes are kind of long I guess and with mascara it seems like I end up with mascara on my eyelids within hours.

Pic with no mascara below. Would that Maybelline one be good you think?

Wow, are they ever long! Lucky woman.

I think you should try the Maybelline kind in the bright yellow tube with the purple writing, because it has a big fat brush that will separate and add width- but not too much length, which you certainly don't need.

If you go to most drugstores, just check out the displays and get one for that need, not necessarily one that will add length.

Also waterproof might be good as it will help prevent it from rubbing off on your lids. Just get a good eye makeup remover so you aren't rubbing to get it off.

Love that pic of Roseanna and her pyramid hair.

I have looked like that many a time! LONG layers only!!

Maybelline The Colossal Volum' Express Mascara Review | Doing Drugstore, Mascara, Maybelline | BellaSugar - Makeup, Beauty, Hair & Skin

This is the one...it does say don't expect miracles, but I liked it. It does not add a lot of length so that is good for you.

Rosacea?

I have the early signs of rosacea, redness and burst capillaries on my nose and cheeks and forehead, and some acne-like bumps, and went to a dermatologist a few months ago.

He said it was most likely the beginnings of rosacea and prescribed me the metro lotion (metronidazole, .75%).....thanks, Scottish and English ancestors ....

anyone have this and use the metro lotion? I have been using Stieva A cream (Retin A/trentinoin/Vit A acid) cream for the past few years too (for adult acne) and he said I could continue to use both, but I thought maybe I would give the metro lotion a try alone for a few months to see if that gets rid of the redness and the zits....anyone have any feedback on this?

Riss..is the A cream a prescription? If so, professionally speaking, I would give it a rest. Maybe only use a couple of time a week at best. How long have you noticed the redness and bumps and how long have you used the cream? Metro gel is still the number one rx for rosacea and as long as you use it faithfully you'll see positive results. I have a lot of clients who wait until they're in a flare before they use it and wonder why they keep flaring! Use it daily or as you dr prescribed.

Everyone has their own triggers with rosacea but common triggers to avoid are: (and please don't kill the messanger!!)
Red wine
Coffee/high caffiene drinks
Hot or spicy foods...black pepper included
Acidic foods like citrus fruits, tomatoes
Full fat dairy products
Cut back on meats with a lot of fat
Activities that make you flush excessively..it's the flushing that causes those weak blood vessles to pool at the surface of the skin and get worse.

Skin care...mild detegent free, medicated free, cream cleansers (no sodium lauryl sulfate), serums like Custom Dermaceuticals C2S...2 forms of vitamin C with a touch off salicylic acid to exfoliate and take down inflamation, lightweight moisturizer with hylauranic acid to really lock in hydration and sunblock with a zinc base. Zinc is a physical block, not a screen, and also helps to heal the skin.

Just like with most inflamitory conditions, try to follow an anti-inflamitory diet and make sure you're getting enough zinc, plenty of vitamin D and essential fatty acids (borage is especially good for skin issues) and stay well hydrated to flush out excess waste and toxins. There is some evidence that rosacea and colon issues such as IBS, cronic constipation, candida, are linked and taking a good probiotic supplement helps a lot with rosacea.

I have quite a few clients with rosacea and as long as they stay on the gel and try to eliminate the triggers they do very well. Rosacea never really gets better and in some cases it gets much worse over time and with hormone changes, stress (a biggie!). But many times it just pops up and stays the same level throughout the rest of your life. Just take note of what makes you red or flushed or makes the nodules pop up and try not to do that too much!

But my nails look great!
What's your secret?

My nails seem so brittle, they are actually in layers and I can pill part of it off! I know that too much water is bad for them and I do wash my hands far too much! Other than that I don't know what I'm doing wrong for them to look the way they do!? I use gloves when cleaning, I don't use them as tools (to open cans, etc). I started taking some vitamins for nails and hope it helps!

I think that comment was maybe made shortly after a trip to Mexico ....they sure don't look good here now, or normally....it's the humidity that makes them look good.

Normally (it is quite dry here) they are pretty dry and break easily. Using Witchcraft brand nail hardener works best for me though.

Thanks Kelly!!

Yes, the Stieva A is by prescription, I have been using it for maybe 5 years now, for acne, and it really has worked wonders for me. Which is why I am a bit hesitant to stop using it, of course, but at the same time I won't miss the peeling and sun sensitivity either.

yeah, I saw that list of what to avoid....all the good things, dammit! Red wine and cheese and coffee are staples for me!

I don't have any of the digestion issues at all....and I don't actually have the tendency to blush at all, and when I have foundation on you can't really see any redness....but it sure is there without makeup, and both my parents have it and have had to have the laser treatments.

I am hoping this stuff works, or at least helps prevent it getting a lot worse!

I think I will just give the Metrolotion a shot on it's own for at least 3 months and see if it helps or what. I will report back.

Has anyone tried Child perfume oil? I keep reading raves about it and am looking for a new summer scent. Top note is Hawiian Jasmine; it has a bit of a cult following and is a little pricey.

OK, I'm glad I did some research because I found a much cheaper option: Kuumba Made oils (which they sell online as well as at Whole Food) makes a scent called Pikaki Lei which to the nose of some perfume bloggers is a dead ringer for Child, but just 8 bucks for the roll on oil!

Description:
A tropical, not too sweet Jasmine with clean under notes. Unusual and exciting!

I got the Black Coconut too!
