I heard in the news yesterday that Vista will search your 'puter periodically for illegal software and remove it. Is this true? What qualifies as illegal software? We do free music downloads from Limewire....would that be an example?

I need a new desktop BADLY and have been holding out for Vista to come PREloaded so I don't have to do the install. I am SO computer ignorant it's scary, I'd prolly screw it up so waiting was my option but I need to buy really soon.
Now I just have to keep an eye out for decent airfare so I can fly JimmyMN out to Joisey to transfer my info from one puter to a new one! I really need/wish I had a local computer guru helper person! ![]() |

What MS is after is installing one copy of office on 4 or 5 computers. The first one is legal, the rest are not. Apparently they have a way of disabling all copies except the first one to register. They have been doing this with XP for about a year and a half. |

My brother is a developer for Microsoft. He told me last year to wait for the commercial release before upgrading and to give it a little time (Service Pack likely needed).
But overall he says it is a good product. It doesn't really matter anyway. It's here, It's Microsoft, and you will have to eventually upgrade if you want to run the 'latest' software packages. But your initial post is right. You need a beefy PC to run it. Minimum standards (to use the Aero interface which is one of the best parts of the new OS --it's Mac-like in that part) are you need 1 GB of RAM and 15 GB harddrive space. Well, my PC is due for an update as I have the memory, but my PC is maxed out at a Gig of RAM. So, I think I'm going to wait a couple of months and by a new DELL with the OS already on it and make sure I have at least 2 GB of ram (min expandable to 4 GB for growth). Looking forward to getting it and playing with it sometime soon. Thanks, for sharing Mikey! |

I ran the Vista Upgrade advisor at work.
Need bigger hard drive, new graphics card Our networking software may not work on it When they get me a new computer, I suppose it will have Vista. I am psyched about Leopard, the heck with Vista ![]() |

![]() (Microsoft realizes that they will not make their money on this OS with upgrades...its all about covering the 90% of all new computers that will utilize Vista as the OS.) |

Maybe Service Pack 2. I am not your early adopter type. |
