My Jeep motor blew up tonight
A stock 4.0L, stroked to 4.6L, thorough "massage", 270-hp, coming back from the mill, KABOOM. Nothing. Dead.
I've put in 30k into this thing, all has worked great, the motor was a masterpiece, now it's a boat anchor. I phoned Vido at 10:20pm, he gave me a ride home, my Jeep still sits out in the cold, where thieves and scavengers.......... will surely die if I catch them. Nice, good thing the Corona is cold

Unless you threw a rod or did the crank it is most likely rebuildable but you could view this situation as a great opportunity to put in a real motor for a reasonably moderate cost! Almost any of the small block chevy family with dead nuts reliability can get you upwards of 350 hp easily and live forever. Just get a crate engine (esp.weight saving aluminum head variety) to give you a lot more to enjoy and I hear they are very easy to drop in for any Jeep model. This probably isn't news to you as a Jeep enthusiast, as I'm sure you well aware of the popularity of the swap being done by off-roaders and hill climbers for years... Randy |

Looks like I got lucky, the timing chain broke and piled up, breaking sprocket teeth and the timing chain cover. All else is looking good, should be running next week!

I too am a Jeep dude...both my parents drive Jeeps (extremely modified)...and I have a Wrangler and a Cherokee....
Good to hear...if you were close my pops coulda helped you out... What about loading an LT1 in that bad boy? I have heard of that on some of the older CJ5's, but a Rubicon might be too small? |

The LT1 would fit, but swapping engines may be a registration issue, not here at the moment, but if I move somewhere and rules are tight, I'm up the creek.
The 4.6L stroker does work very well, I'm at least 260-270hp and has gobs of torque, over 300lbs, gets 15mpg with 37" tires at 68mph, and no one could tell the difference when smog testing or looking under the hood, heheheh!!!! |
