On our first trip to Playa, the Cancun-to-Playa taxi driver gave us a running tour commentary: "Walmart - welcome home!... ", etc. each time we passed a U.S. - based franchise store.

I have to admit I love a large espresso (4 shots) from Starbucks after a night of drinking... I will get most of my coffee at the more local spots... Especially that place with that amazing tres leche chocolate cake...

Muckle, your saying about the handbasket goes perfect with the cab driver's commentary on Walmart. I dunno, something about seeing any of the chains from home takes away a bit from my Mexican experience. |

"One more Starbucks recently opened: 5th and Calle 26."
would that be close to the new hagan daaz? in little italy, i've lost count now of how many of those ice cream shops there are on 5th but dam. i cannot afford those ice creams but then again i didn't come to playa for these products anyways. and with cafe corazon nearby, why would anyone go anywhere else for an iced coffee, coffee or a comfort bev? not to mention the free wireless internet ![]() |

Ok, I need some help here. I'm one of those people who love good strong coffee but can't handle caffine especially in the morning. In the evening with brandy, not a problem. Anyway, I've been going to Starbucks (which I never do at home) on 5th and 10th for decalf in the morning and it's ok. Java Joe's doesn't serve it as seems to be the case anywhere else including where we stay at Playa Maya unless you can deal with instant which sucks. Anyone know of an alternative to Starbucks I can stumble to in the mornings? I suppose I could grind it ahead of time and bring it down with a coffee maker. Given my lack of enthusiam generally for Starbucks, that might be the right choice but I'm just too lazy when on vacation.
