Present
• It is “unequivocal” that the world’s climate is warming -- average air and ocean temperatures and sea levels are rising and the melting of the planet’s snow and ice is widespread.

• It is “likely” -- “more likely than not” in some cases -- that manmade greenhouse gases have contributed to hotter days and nights, and more of them; more killer heat waves than before; heavier rainfall more often, major droughts in more regions, stronger and more frequent cyclones and “increased incidence” of extremely high sea levels.

Future
• If greenhouse gas emissions continue at or above today’s rate, they will “very likely” cause bigger changes in the world’s climate system in the 21st century than they did in the 20th century.

• The panel’s estimate for the range of rises in average global temperatures by 2100 is 1.8 to 4 degrees Celsius (3.2 to 7.1 degrees Fahrenheit).

• Warmer temperatures and rising sea levels will continue for centuries even if greenhouse gas concentrations are stabilized.

you have to throw out the "estimate" and then you're left with very basic observations.......buncha grant suckers if you will.........I'm suprised they haven't pointed to the collective body heat of the rapidly expanding human population as another contributing cause.........hell, lemme throw that out there and collect a check for 13 million

Imagine you were buying a house and the real estate agent told you that you would have to pay somewhere between $15,000 and $45,000 a year for somewhere between 10 and 40 years.

Scott, Mark, and the rest of you guys - congratulations!

You've convinced me!

I'm going to ignore global warming and dismiss it entirely!

Lets hope the other 9 billion people on the planet follow my lead and move on from this utter nonsense, yeah?

Is that *really* what you want?

Really?

Yes, because we can't pinpoint the EXACT rate of warming or the EXACT level the oceans will rise by the year 2100 we should just ignore it completely.

Are you SERIOUSLY giving us a "rolling your eyes" icon just because scientists can't pinpoint these specifics?

Let me turn this around on you: What if your doctor said, "Mark, you've been diagnosed with disease X. There are treatments you can take, but if you don't take them, you have approximately 6 to 18 months to live."

Would you give your doctor the mocking and dismissive: ? Or would you take steps to start the needed treatment?

that's never been my stance.......humans do affect the climate, that's 2nd grade knowledge......can we slow global warming by addressing the burning of fossil fuels???......sure we can....by a minute percentage...........I listened to the press release of this report and the lady scientist admitted that there are larger contibuting factors that man has absolutely no control over........will the world change???....sure it will.......and animal and plant life will evolve right along with it as long as the changes are gradual.........now, if the Pacific Rim explodes in one big volcanic eruption, we're toast w/ no jelly

I don't mind you chaining your bicycle to a tree in the front yard at this years toobin regatta......as long as you can live with the fact that the production of all the parts used to assemble that bicycle help facilitate global warming.......and btw, you're gonna get some wierd looks floatin down the Guadalupe on a raft made of coconuts lashed together with a hemp rope

I'm waiting to hear what Mark would say to his CRAZY loopy doctor with all of his SILLY "estimates" of life expectancy if he doesn't take the treatment!

If a doctor told me that, and told me that there was little that could be done (as roni's post from earlier stated: • Warmer temperatures and rising sea levels will continue for centuries even if greenhouse gas concentrations are stabilized), I would investigate my options, thoroughly. I wouldn't make a spur of the moment decision or try as many possible forms of recovery, as possible and bankrupt my family in the process.

It is one thing to say the climate is changing. OK, fine. What can we do? By the sound it (again, roni's "fact"), not much. Even if the US were to fully comply with the most extreme preventive measures, do you seriously think that countries like Mexico and China have the ability to do the same? Good luck with that. Of course, you want to do what you can, within reason.

If I believed sea levels were going to go up 15 to 40 feet in the next X years, and immediate reductions of CO2 emissions wouldn't change that fact, then I wouldn't rebuild New Orleans or buy a condo in Playa. It would be irresponsible and stupid, wouldn't it?

Actually, I would go to a Cuban doctor in Merida. They have great equipment there.
