Home Manicures... I feel like SUCH an idiot!!

About 20 years ago I gave up wearing nail polish since it seemed to have the opposite effect on me than it did on others: with me, my nails were weaker and more brittle, so I gave it up (and always envied the nicely polished nails I'd see on others).

Well, a couple of months ago I decided to give it another try. Bought some nice OPI polish, "Nail Envy" base, and Seche Vite top coat. Have enjoyed the look, but have dreaded the time it would take me to do my nails. Who has two hours to "kill" to do their nails?

"Huh?", you ask. "Two hours???"

Yep. That's how long it would take me. Apply base coat. Wait 30 minutes to dry. Apply first coat of polish. Wait 30 minutes to dry. Apply second coat of polish. Wait 30 minuts to dry. Apply Top Coat. Wait a bit less than 30 minutes for it to dry (since it is a "quick dry" top coat).

Then tonight when picking up a new color of OPI, I questionned girl at the counter about this oil stuff that you drip on the nail to make the polish dry faster. I asked, "You don't use it in between coats - only after the last coat, right?" (I was trying to understand why it was worth the $10 price tag.) After some discussion with her Chinese-speaking counterpart, she explained to me that there's no need to wait for the polish to dry between coats and that you apply the coats right after each other and then apply the oil after the top coat.

I damn near fell over. When I think of the hourssssssssss I've spent during the last few months waiting for my nails to dry (and putting off anything I wanted to do around the house which would mess up my not-yet-dry nails), I could positively cry!!!!!

I just gave myself the fastest polishing I've ever had (other than the one professional manicure I had over 20 years ago). From start to finish, maybe 20 minutes. And I am astounded at how hard the polish already feels.

Live and learn, huh!!

When I go and get nails, I definitely am not sitting there for hours
They slap the first coat on, as soon as they are done with #10, they start back on #1, after the second round with #10, they slap on the top nail harder stuff....whammo, I'm done; bake under the little light for 10 minutes and I'm out the door!

I always wondered how those salon workers could have clients hanging around for so long to get their nails done!!

What a major DUH I've done on this topic, huh!!! Guess I've gotta be more of a girlie-girl!!

Well, when I first saw your current avatar (back in 2004, I think?), I thought it was a pig in a hammock. "Who's this sctx guy and why would he have an avatar of a pig in a hammock???"
