Anyone have TMJ?

I feel like the right side of my jaw is not in place. I grind my teeth at night and have popping sounds in my jaw. When I try to bite down, the right side doesn't close all the way and hurts like he$$. Anyone else have similar problems?

Well, not giving advice, but I work as a massage therapist and have seen this quite often. Everyone is different in what they respond to, but people I know of have had a massage specific to that area, a chriopractic adjustment, or a bite splint made by their dentist.

I know it is very painful...hope you get some relief soon

Thanks. The bloody mary is helping a bit. Could use a vicodin though. I have a night guard but maybe I should check into massage therapy to help loosen the jaw muscles.

Does your night guard help? I used to clench my teeth at night (I'm a clencher, not a grinder, per my old dentist)... and would wake up with awful headaches and would have to sloooowly relax and open my jaw... the night guard helped, but I hated all the drooling

Apparently I'm not as stressed as I used to be and only occasionally do the clenching thing... but on those mornings after, I often think I should get a new night guard...

Do the over the counter ones work, or does it need to be professionally fitted?

I have a professionally fitted one. Haven't tried the over the counter one. I don't like the slobber thing either. I don't see why there would be much of a difference between the one you get from your dentist and the over the counter one.

Not sure on that one, I know my clients often say "Oh I need my bite splint adjusted" I would think the one by the dentist would be the better bet.

Is it possible that my jaw is dislocated? Or do you think it is just a muscle thing?

No snow here. Bright and sunshiny! It feels like my right jaw is a little lower than my left though.

I've had it since I was a child. Most the time it doesn't bother me, but there are times when I can't even eat. Hurts so bad that I want to cry. Of course i don't since I'm a guy and all..... Recently it flared up again and I went and bought a night guard from local drug store. It works ok, but I agree about the whole slobbering thing. It's just something that I've grown to live with......
