Cabanas Tulum
Was wondering if anyone has stayed in Tulum at Cabanas Tulum...pros/cons? Would be staying there in August...know there are no air conditioners but was also wondering how bad the mosquitos would be at night? Thanks for any input!

Its very basic, front units right on the beach, price is great about $45 to $50 bucks per night, saves you money to return sooner or stay longer, has excellent beach in front, at night you can sleep with windows wide open and not have any mosquito problems, they hate the sea breeze. its right next to Ana Y jose and easily walkable to Tita Tulum or Posada Margherita for dinners! just bring some old towels to wipe your feet on at bed side to remove the sand before you get in!

We stopped there to look at the rooms in Nov 05, but didn't stay because they didn't have beach chairs, they had all been blown away by the hurricane! We were going there to relax, and my husband said he couldn't relax by lying in the sand.
I would imagine the've replaced the loungers by now!! |

We are staying there Feb 15,16 & 17 this month. A friend of ours stayed there a couple of years ago and loved it. We actually found more info about Cabanas Tulum on Tulum.info board and Loco Gringo. Plya is still our favorite and we are still staying there for 4 days also this trip ( disclaimer! )

I stayed there for 4 nights last February. (Hey Worthless Nut - met you at the Beer Bucket in Playa several days later!
) The units are very basic, but clean. Concrete constuction, beds were OK, a hamock can be rented for very little money, to "hang out" on your front porch/terrace, they run the electricity for several hours every AM and from 7-11P. They do have beach loungers now. The little restaurant/bar serves good basic breakfast. The dining room at Ana y Jose's next door is beautiful and very good. The best part of the place is being able to lie in bed and see the blue waters of the Gulf. I am going back for 4 days in April with my wife, before we go to Playa for 4 days. It's a great counterpoint to the Playa nightlife, there being little or none in the Tulum area. But the moon at night on the beach in front of Cabanas Tulum....WOW! I liked it enough to go back! Doc |

Sure Doc, I remember. I think last time you left your wife at home to support your habits. Glad to hear you liked the Cabanas, something different for us. Great tip on the cenote across the street, will have to check it out!

Thanks Doc...sounds wonderful, just what we're looking for. We will also be spending time in Playa and Cozumel. Thanks for the tip on the cenote...can't wait to check it out. Another question...how's the snorkling in that area?
