We just returned from ten days at the Viva Azteca, and it was one of the more satifying experiences in my life. I usually don't go over board with praise, but this place is close to perfect. Check-in, rooms, food, drinks, beach, faces - all (I believe genuine) smiles!

Of course, our trip to Tulum was the only day which got rained out completely (11/7), but it's hardly PDC's or the Club's fault <grin>, and our son (4yrs) enjoyed Kid's Club so much that he didn't even want to come and play with us any more at the end (what does this reveal about his parents...?).

Anyway, the VA is the perfect haven for people who want relative quiet (230-something rooms) inmidst of all the big hotels around. Entertainment and activities are just fine, if you don't feel like doing anything, one "no" is enough, no further harassment.

A daytrip to Cozumel on the ferry (US$ 17R/T) is nice, as is a walk to PDC (30 minutes with a four-year-old...). The only thing that bugged me were the US$ 119 for the opportunity to swim with dolphins, but maybe I'm just cheap. I wonder if there are ways to get better deals.

Note: my wife NEVER EVER wants to go back to a place she's been before, but now I heard her mumble something to the effect of "<i><b>I think we should go back and try to pick a dry day for the Mayan temples, and we should also stay at the VA again</i></b>" or so...

<i>Very greatful</i> Tarik

thanks for the info ... I've looked at all the properties via the web and I keep coming back to the Azteca ... looks like that'll be my choice when I've got the loot to make one.

You can NOT go wrong with Viva Azteca. It was 99% perfect. The 1% was the crazy temperature changes in the shower. But by no means does that effect the amount of fun to be had @ the VA.
