I ate at Tacos Israel the last 2 nights, and it is very good, but don´t tell anyone else, OK. Dr. Taco was closed Sunday, but I plan to try it today. The only downer note is El Oasis is closed for remodeling! I truly believe that their shrimp tacos were the best thing I have ever eaten. No seriously, the best thing. So I am open to any and all suggestions for alternatives. Can yál help a brother out? Doc

It looks like they painted over Jughead on the outside of the building, but I see he's still on the menu.

I should add that as part of my trip planning, I have searched the forum and compiled a respectable list of kid friendly places to try.
If they like pizza, I would go to pizza pazza just for them and then head for a place to eat for the adults, I did it last time my niece came and it worked out nicely. In most restaurants you can find comfort food for the kids like hamburgers, fries, chicken fingers, etc. so you don't really need to stop at a Mc.

Also inside I still saw a couple of big Jugheads on the walls.

Gracias Jesus, those are good suggestions & I've found a thread about pizza (including pizza pazza).

& what's up with Jughead? Is it just their schtick?

One night after a few too many drinks at La Ranita, I decided to try the mid-range salsa. I made a mistake, and ended up putting on a whole lot of the habaneros really hot stuff. My lips were burnt for a few days, I had to apply a lot of blistex!

JimmyMN is wrong. The original Taco Arabe is the best. This is the specialty of the house, made with the meat cooked on the rotisserie outside, and that has the secret sauce from Puebla (where this restaurant originated).

We haven't had a chance to ask the owners where the will move when the building is torn down hopefully a close place we usually eat at Tacos Isreal once a week. The arabe is definately our choice.

Ok!

Just finished eating.....

JimmyMn, cant say I agree with you on the Chorizo idea. Each to their own but whist it was nice, it didnt rock my world.

James, Arabe was imho better than Chorizo, but still not earth shattering. Does it have to be? No not really but the tacos for me are not as good as El Forgon, in terms of quality or price, much less taste. Again its a personal choice.

It should be said that the bowls of rice, catus etc do add something to entice a hungry person to tarry for a while, and so give this place a whirl, but if you dont make it, Oh well!

Photos comming soon!

I LOVED my taco de pollo during the peep meet the other night! Lots and lots of pollo and other good stuff on a grilled tortilla de maiz (your choice of wheat or corn).

Thanks JEZ..."Food Editor"!

It might be just me, I dunno...but I really dig the sound of...
"El Fogon".

Plus he makes the call to make sure the food is on its way...
"¿dónde está manuel?"

I guess the taste of food is kind of subjective. If I had to eat at Tacos Israel seven days a week, I'd definitely order the Taco Arabe most of the time. If you really want to fill up, order it as a torta.

My thing about their chorizo taco is the taste of their chorizo compared to others in town. Now, the last time I was there, it didn't taste quite as snappy. Were my taste buds beat up? Was the cook a little off that night? Was it a fresh batch or an day old batch? Anyway, in a few days, I'll redo my taste test and see if their game is still on.

On a side note... about a year ago the colectivo dropped me off at the pickup point on Calle-2 between 15th & 20th Avenue. It was about 6pm and the aroma from a business called Tacos Gomez (still there) was reaching out to me. The torta they whipped together was absolutely incredible, better than the smell that drove me to them. Six months later, I had them on the top of my list to retry. Second time around it was a good sandwich but nothing earth shattering like the time before. Anyone else have these occurrences with food around town?

Jimmy
