Oh yeah..one more thing....LaPesca only charged us 100 pesos for the whole dinner...2 drinks, guac/chips/salsa, garlic bread, rice, pasta (awesome) plus preparing our lobster to perfection. Could have charged way more...and it still would have been a great deal. We gave them 200 pesos. The lobster was bought at a commercial place around the corner. We got the two biggest tails they had for $38 US. It was more than we needed! We were the only customers they had at the time, around 7pm. We promised to spread the word...

This place is very, very good! I haven't gotten around to making up my trip report yet but we were there Dec. 13-19, and this was our favorite restaurant of the trip. We ate there our second and also our last nights in Playa, and were really pleased both times. The waiters are very friendly, the food incredible, and we actually enjoyed watching the action on 30th as we ate.
We got there each night around 7-7:30 (they do close at 8 but don't make you feel rushed if you're still eating). Both nights there was only one other couple there. We had queso fundido con camerones and guacamole as starters. I thought their guacamole was delicious, at least as good if not better than Carbonicitas or El Fagon. I highly recommend taking the waiter's suggestions about their specialties! The first night Russ had a grouper wrapped in banana leaves with some type of garlicy sauce (sorry, I don't remember the name) that was excellent. I had the camarones ajillo....both times we went, it was so good. They treated us to free after dinner shots, our bill wasn't more than $25-30 usd either time, even with sampling their delicious daiquiris the first time and pina coladas the second time. Also had an excellent lunch at El Burrito del Gordo (I hope I got the name right)...another place well worth trying, if you can just find it! I would highly recommed this place for dinner. I'm hoping they do really well, so they will still be there the next time we come back to Playa!!! Now, if I can just find the time to work on that trip report.... |

La Pesca
T&C and I just had dinner again at Pesca. We've been several times. I think it's our favorite restaurant, so we wanted to pass along the location. It's on 30th Ave directly across from Mega. It's off the normal tourist path and each time we've gone it's been pretty empty. This might be a selfish post b/c we want all of you to go there so that it doesn't go out of business for us (like so many places do)! The menu is mainly seafood with prices around 75-90 pesos for a dish and everything we've had has been delicious! Tonight we had fish stuffed with mushrooms, cheese, and spinach with rice and grilled veggies; coco shrimp with a sweet sauce; and this amazing soup (Cheri's favorite...what's the name, Cheri?) with cheese and shrimp. Yum!! Why didn't I take food pictures like I normally do?! I will next time! Anyway, you all should venture over and try it out. They close at 9pm. Oh, they have good desserts and a full bar too (almost left out the most important info!)!
EDIT: This is all that I took tonight, but I did find a food pic from another time at Pesca. These shrimp were wrapped with bacon and cheese inside. ![]()

I had dinner with the two sweetest girls in Playa tonight so I could have been eating the phone book and I wouldn't complain!
But you are right darlin' daughter...easily the best seafood in Playa. Anthony, the owner worked at the Blue lobster for years until he could open his own place. His commitment to creating a good restaraunt shows. Good service, great food, and decent margaritas. Oh... and the dish C and I love is the Cazuela Camaron...an oven baked bisk of tomato, cream, cheese, chilis and about a pound of giant shrimp. OMG!!!-Papa T Last edited by Tony&Cheri; 02-10-2007 at 11:34 PM. |

We plan on eating there next Thanksgiving day, our first night back in town. We will be staying with Tony & Cheri at the Luna Blue for 3 nights and the Playa Maya for a week. Here are some photos from last year.
(Cheri, Donna wants to know the name of your cats) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This was our favorite also. Lots of great food and many drinks for less than $17 a person. Last edited by Jimontheriver; 02-11-2007 at 07:27 AM. |

Loved their guac too. I also noticed that there weren't many people there...actually we were the only ones.
Very friendly waiters who couldn't do enough for you and the price is right. Our condo is right there and there are at least 3-4 really good places a block away...El Fogon, Pesca, the crepe place on the corner of Constitution and 25th to just name a few.
