A/C in rooms At Tucan

Does the A/C stay on all of the time in the rooms at the Tucan/Quetzal ? I have read that the maids turn it up when they clean. When we stayed in the Dominican we had to put our room key in a switch once we entered the room to activate the A/C and when you left with the key, off goes the A/C. If you left your 2nd key in the switch when you left the maids would take it and return it to front desk, when you went to retrieve it they would warn you not to leave it in the switch.

The AC (and lights, fan, etc) turn off. They are on a motion sensor, and turn off after a certain amount of time elapses. Unless they've upgraded the systems, there's a digital thermostat but no key switch like you describe. We usually left the AC on the lowest temperatur possible, and were always comfortable, if not a little to cold. If we left the room when the AC was on, the room would be sufficiently cool upon our return even after turning off.

Thanks for the Info, I also heard that the plug that the Mini-Fridge is plugged into is controlled as well to turn on and off, Is that true?

Not sure, but it's possible. The items in the fridge never got very cold. But this could also be due to the fact that the fridges are old and in concrete housings.

Not sure about the AC. When we stayed there, it stayed cool (AC running) while we were sleeping. Our maids did not touch the t-stat

I believe that the a/c is turned off when a door is open. The front door (not sure), the sliding door must be closed for sure. I didnt look for a "door switch" but that is what I was told and it seemed to be true. Try a test. Make sure a/c is on and open the sliding door, a/c will cut off.

We also did the key thing in Dom Rep...but not needed here...the room was always the right temp for us when we came back...as for the fridge ...well maybe it could have been cooler but it kept the water nice and cold and the beers etc so it was ok with us.....we are looking forward to our next visit later this year oh by the way look out for the towel art! they make all kinds of things with the towels they are very clever! every day there was a different animal on the bed

I learned a little tip from this very web-site.
Leave the cabinet doors open that hold the fridge and it lets some of the heat out, allowing the fride to get a little colder. Seems to work for me.

It worked for us too! And, the AC did shut off if you left the sliders to the patio open.
