I have always gone to Playa alone and rarely do I spend much time alone! My choice, naturally... I go out of my way to meet interesting people. The one thing I was advised though was to not advertise the travelling alone part, while down there. Just a simple safety precaution. (although I am busted for my next trip!) I have found Playa to be safe, provided you remain aware of your surroundings, or ... hire a 'babysitter' if you choose not to be aware
