hola!
so, I must admit - I went and made a post w/out introducing myself - live in Coastal NH - a long time friend, and Playa info forum poster "Caramba" introduced me to this sight when I told her I was planning to go to PDC in May. She is Soo excited for me to see PDC that I must say its going to make the wait that much harder.
She gave all kinds of wonderful insight - cannot wait for this trip - vaca has been a longtime coming Staying at the Occidental Allegro - it should be interesting to check out the AI thing , little concerned that the term"local alcoholic beverages" means no Bud Light or Capt.Morgan..... (was in my first post also, before intro...pardon my anxiety on this issue) Been to Jamaica twice - really loved it - snorkeling ect...Carmaba tells me the waters around PSC will blow the water around Jamaica away - cant wait to see it,feel it, smell it, ok I'll stop... thanks for the wonderful site - Kendra |

Welcome.
I would encourage leaving the Bud Light and Capt. Morgan in the States where they belong. (not there is anything wrong wth either) The local beverages are great. Try a Sol, Dos XX, a Mojito, Marg. on the rocks, or one of the many GREAT Tequilas. Also, the best place to try these things in in town. Carmaba is right the waters around PDC will blow the ater around Jamaica away. Have a great trip! |

thanks for the reply - ya know, I was thinking after I posted, just what you gave me, - what's the comparable in Mexico..? I will have to give tequila another try - must say it wasnt too nice to me back in Margaritaville...plus I am sure tequila THERE is a bit different than anything I've tasted...

Bump, how did you know Kendra is a cat lover?
Hey Kendra, welcome! You didn't tell me you'd signed up or I would have welcomed you sooner! Kendra was on two of our Jamaica trips, several years ago, and while I absolutely love Jamaica, the water and the snorkelling is far better around PDC- beats the Keys, too, in my opinion, Kendra (been snorkelling with her when she lived there, as well). And I think you'll find some local beers that will be up to par with your faves here at home. Of course if you stop by again sometime before your trip I'll introduce you to those mojitos I was telling you about! |

I was wondering about the cat too ! soo cute, I like it. I've got 2 still, totally black, cannot tell them apart...So, I didnt tell you I had joined because I didnt like my first post - straight into the AI thing - mostly because I thought of both you and tallyho's reaction to the fact we are going AI....
but I am glad that we concluded it would be alright - as this will be a first to Mexico for all but 1 in our party.Absolutely cant wait.Doing some research here and there-"biodegradable" sunblock, thinking I may find that in a Natural Food store - think I should get the combo with insect repellent(?) some places can be fairly buggy from what I've read - would that be the case out in the sunshine also? or just trekking thru the jungle - to a hidden cenote? Trying to sort out Xel Ha vs. Xcaret for a trip out - someone traveling w/ me heard about baby Jaguars somewhere - now we have to find them...believe that'll be Xcaret...? Just remembered Kaluha(?sp) is from Mexico !! yee haaw - good stuff, how do you say "club soda" ... I'm thinking I've tried Sol - many moons ago - |

And many seasoned members (not just our resident Babaloo, the search meister) will beg you to search out some answers to some of the questions that get asked a lot, including the sunscreen one. For example, here's a thread I found by doing an advanced search with 'sunscreen' in the title of a thread- and another... I usually get smartshield lotion online, but I've tried others as well. In fact, at Yal-ku this past year, they had some sort of objection to my smartshield, even though I've used it there before and it is supposed to be biodegradeable, so, hmmmmm, not sure what to say about that. And...silly Kendra! Harris and I are both psyched to see you and your group going to Playa- no problem it's AI- we just aren't in the AI mindset, so don't really get it- that's not what important- we are both so glad you are getting down to Playa- you will all love it. And no question is too silly or unimportant here... ![]() |
