I.D. on your Person

When out and about in Playa, do you need to carry your Passport as ID ? Or just a drivers liscense? (not that I will be carded for anything, that stopped years ago). Do not feel comfortable carrying around the passport,,,

Leave your passport in your safe.

As soon as we hit the room (safe lock in hand) I never touch our paperwork, passport or driver's license/wallet again until the night before we leave...no need for it at all.

I agree with Luv2Dance...and you can always carry a copy of your passport if you're nervous about not having it. Also, unless I really know I need my drivers license, I carry a copy of that too. See Mapchick.com....she has some great tips!

The only time I've ever been Id'd in Mexico is while driving a car or cashing a mone order etc. Never just while operating the footmobile.

Yep, passport should remain locked up. I've never needed id while out on the streets.

Just pin a note to yourself with the name of the hotel you are in so you can be delivered to your home away from home when you are too drunk to remember where that is.

Do you look like you are 18(16) or younger. only then you might need an ID.

Drunk or sober, a note with your name and hotel location is always a good idea, particularly if you are travelling alone. Hit by a taxi, falling into a sidewalk hole, beaned by a coconut, I want somebody to know I need help.

Why not simply xerox the page of the passport that has your photo, and have it laminated and always keep it in an inner pocket?! Always keep the original docs secured in the room or elsewhere under reliable conditions.

This way you may do whatever you feel like doing, including taking a dip, without any worries.

In fact you may want to make two copies, in case the first somehow vanquishes while chatting with them tequila shots.

AHA!!! Feet of clay.....feet of clay!!! Sorry, couldn't resist.

Anyway, I'm with everybody else. Lock the passport in the safe and leave it there.

OK Dionysus, while I will do admit my attraction for that Mexican deity, the Tequila goddess; I'm not in any way trying to dethrone Bacchus.

And I also never venture to dishonor my mortality; for I will lay low whenever I find myself revelling in the convivial rituals of Bacchus' entrancing elixirs ever inseparable as these are from the inexorable company of that demi-god Gravity, and bow even lower when close to the all venerated Tequila goddess.
