Chantz,

Have a look at the Tacos de Camaron thread in this forum. You'll find some references to El Tigre there. Also, last week we tried the El Oasis on north side of 12th Street between 5th and 10th Aves and found their shrimp tacos to be excellent.

:P Yum Yum Yum, El Tigre,

on 10th street between calle 2 and 4 on the right hand side if you are facing in the direction of the ferry docks. This place only has ceviches and cocktails (sp?) in the front room (I am not sure if the have a menu in the back room or not), and you beer comes with a whole fried fish and various little spicy plates of tapas.

I definately think that they have the freshest ceviche, especially their ceviche Caracol (conch), every where else I go it is either frozen or they run out by 11:30 so I never get to try it. (This may or may not have something to with that fact that it is illegal to fish conch in Playa, elsewhere I am not sure) But what a delicacy!!!!!!!

OK, So I'm predjudiced, but any questions about the "best" of anything seafood wise can be answered in two words: "El Oasis". On 12th between 5th and 10th. If anyone doesn't love any thing the order there, please let me know where it is better.

I agree, best shrimp tacos on the planet. It's interesting to see the Minnesota connection with your location information. Where in the state do you spend time ?

Hi. just returned from PDC. I love seafood so after reading denisea's posting I was inspired to seek out ceviche on this year's trip. Since we stayed at an AL we only ate in town a couple of times. We were going to try different places but after our first visit to La Tarrya (wish we found it on previous trips) we were hooked. I really enjoyed their ceviche de camaron ,didn't try octopus etc. maybe next time. We kept saying to each other "how can it get any better than this !?"

Well, if this is headed back to a "who has the best shrimp tacos", then my vote would go to La Floresta...We tried both it and El Oasis, which I have tried before, and I would take the Floresta 10-1...The food at both is outstanding, but found the shrimp tacos a bit bigger and more crisp at La Floresta...Unfortunately, we never found the spot at the Pemex James mentions to try, (Just couldn't find it), so for our tastes so far, has to go #1 for La Floresta and #2 for Oasis.
I will get a bad time here for this I am sure, but spent planned a lot of our vacation around our final supper, which was to be a seafood one, at La Tarraya...I hope we hit a bad night, because it was one of the poorest meals we had in PDC this year...Should have gone back to La Bamba Jaroche....Boy is this place good....A seafood soup that was made in heaven...And fish fillets that melt in your mouth...I think Andy766 will attest to this..We had a lovely supper with Andy, Anna, and Peter there....
The billing was a bit screwed up, so watch what was on the menu...even each menu had a different price??? But boy was it great...just as last year..

The best and freshest Ceviche I have ever tasted was caught and prepared by two local boys in Punta Allen, with the help of my two boys,we ate it right on the beach!

Sure hope it was indeed an isolated incident, Dougie. We ate at La Tarraya three times during our 4 weeks in PDC over Feb/Mar. Found the food to be exceptional on every occasion, and quite reasonably priced as well. Sorry you had such bad luck. We've been recommending the place to everyone we've spoken to. As for El Oasis, I guess I'm sort of braced for the same blast you expected for your comment on La Tarraya, but we found El Oasis to be just adequate. Not "bad" or anything, just sort of "ordinary". Wouldn't say anything real negative about it, but wouldn't go a long way out of our way to go there special. Who knows, Dougie, I guess that's why they make chocolate & vanilla, eh?

Well, we've had excellent meals at both places. Though we've only had lunch at La Tarraya. El Oasis is my favorite --- which you probably already know. I wouldn't call it ordinary, however, I suppose that would depend on what you order. The octopus in it's own ink is fabulous. The octopus diablo is also excellent but outrageously hot. The ceviche is excellent too. The garlic sauce they use for their shrimp in garlic sauce is almost too much garlic --- coming from an Italian that's hard to believe, eh? But again, Bumper you raise a good point --- different strokes for different folks --- that's what makes the world go round. Could you imagine the lines to eat if we all liked the same places?

We just went to El Eigre a few weeks ago and there menu is very limited. I took my husband there because it is a place where alot of local workers go. For every beer you order they will give you a free pescado frito. Guess they dont want you drinking on an empty stomach then going back to work. Other than that, they only serve ceviches and cocktales. The day we went, the fishing boat hadn't come back yet so no pescado frito. El Tigre does have the best ceviche and cocktale de cameron, in my opinion. It's a definate must do!
