A Happy Ending
We have three puppies Xena our soppy American Bull Terrier
![]() Spud a street dog we picked up on the highway ![]() and Peanut, Jens little Chuhiuahua ![]() Well on a friday about a month ago we woke to find little Peanut just lying in his bed obviously in a lot of pain and as the morning progressed he became worse so we took him to see Paco (a fanastic vet and a genuinely nice guy) who gave him a once over ,he gave Peanut an x-ray and it didnt look good, there was a gap in his spine which looked like a break, Paco said there wasnt much he could do for him so he bandaged his neck, gave him painkillers and told us to bring him back if he didnt improve, unfortunately over he wekend he became worse, lost the complete use of his back legs , he didnt eat or sleep, was whimpering and shaking and every time we touched him he would scream, well by sunday night it was that bad we knew the best and only thing for him was to go to doggy heaven. Jen was so upset that when we took him to the vet she couldnt get out of the car, she said her goodbyes and i sadly took Peanut inside, but Paco said he wanted to try an experimental operation on him, he warned me it may not work and even if he repaired the spinal injury he still might not walk again, i didnt hesitate and gave him the go ahead, Peanut is only 10 mths old and dogs can adapt. After the op Paco took him to his own home and nursed him for 4 days and kept telling us he was improving and no longer had pain, although his legs were still not improving.. we brought him home and it was a joy to see him all perky and pain-free and to watch him trying to get around by dragging himself on his bottom, i decided to try and build him a doggy wheelchair ![]() Peanut took to it straight away and before long was chasing the two other very bemused puppies round the house, we could even take him out walking with the other two which he seemed to really enjoy, making Jen run to keep up with him ![]() But the best was yet to come, after a week of trotting around in his chair he seemed to get stronger then on friday, to our amazment he tried to stand he eventually got himself up and actually took a few very wobbly steps before falling over, but that didnt stop him, he tried again and again and as each day has passed he has walked more and more until he can now run around chasing the other puppies almost as before,he can even climb the stairs to the roof terrace, he still staggers and walks with a comical step but we are hoping that soon he will be completely back to normal a tiny hero with a huge heart

You're not kidding about the happy ending, I NEVER would have guessed... I thought getting him home WAS the happy ending. REALLY happy for you all, and peanut too! (I had a chihuahua growing up) |
