Just depends on the person obviously. It can't be done in my world. On vacation, I'd spend $50 on booze alone prior to sunset

That is some mighty short bar hopping.

Rob, I appreciate your money management. If you were bar hopping with me, you would be broke by lunch. There is no way I could survive on 85 pesos a day.I was in PDC for ten days, had dinner at all local restaurants, frequented the food carts in the morning and still spent $600- $800 pesos a day for two people.

I agree. When taking a vacation I always just spend what I want. Now living there might be another situation. So, I can see where he might want to be thrifty. I think I would give up some of the alcohol purchases for some great food in Playa though.

Well, I am pretty sure I couldn't do it. Planning on $100 per day. That's just me. I think Jerry is planning on like $10 a day.

Living there would be different. But, $85 pesos a day would stiil not be enough. Maybe $200 would work

That seems a touch more reasonable. My bar tab travelling is always high. Who cares anyway? When I take a week for vacation I don't worry about such a strict budget. I'd rather give up a year of vacation to save up and then just go the next without the worries of a budget. IMO.

We bought liquor and made drinks in the room and took them out with us on a lot on 5th. I am the type to get ancy in the bar if I am not dancing, so we would just walk back to the room sometimes to refill, or get a drink there and move on. It will help a lot if you have a fridge in your hotel room

We tend not to worry too much about the budget...it is once a year we go to Playa and we drink what we want, when we want, and how much we want. So THERE!

Sounds good to me. The wife and I average $100 per day over a two week period. We eat good, but don't go crazy every night. ( I'd weigh 400# if we did) but a couple nites at Chicago Don Joses several at Babe's and the rest spread around other places. We have a couple drinks each with meals and buy booze at Walmart for afternoons and evenings. We are NOT big club people so your results there may very. Mamitas every day with a beer or two though.

Living, not vacationing, in Playa can be done pretty cheap. I will vouch for Rob. For the 42 days we were there he had a big smile on his face. But that could be the Eastener in him, they are always happy.
A full liter of Vodka or Rum at WalMart or Mega can be purchased for under 60 pesos. Pertty good quality too boot.

I just wanted to add to this thread that I was thankful for the feedback others gave here as I was planning and budgeting for our trip. We just got back, so I'll add my 2 cents ( or 2 pesos) worth now.

We don't drink much, and enjoyed a mix of restaurants, some really cheap, and others that were not much different than prices here in Winnipeg.

Our total cash spent for the two of us for 1 week was $600 cnd.

If you subtract some gifts, traveling costs to Akumal, Tulum, Hidden Worlds, and a Catamaran Sail ride, we spent around $300 on food and tips. So around $50 cnd per day, or $25 each per day.

Yes it would have been easy to spend more. But if someone really wanted to pinch their pennies it would be possible to do it on less as well.

Thanks for everyone elses input on this!
