Hello from Baton Rouge !!!

Finally took the plunge and registered with the forum. I've been a snooper for a year or so, but now since I've been to PDC a few times, I might actually have a few things to offer - so I signed up.

My wife and I have been to PDC four times - stayed in the big AI resorts - most recently to Secrets Capri. We really like just getting there and staying put. Everyone wants to know "what did you do when you were down there?" and we have a hard time explaining to people that we like to do NOTHING. Laid back is good for us.

We haven't ventured into town yet - but I think we'll try to get out next visit. We're looking to go down in May for a 4 day trip. We've been to Xpu Ha twice, and then Secrets. Now we'd like a change. We're looking into the Royal Hideaway, but DANG that's expensive!

With four kids, we are a fan of Adults-only places....God knows we need the break.

So - with all that, if anyone can suggest our next getaway, I'd love to hear what you think.

Thanks again for allowing me to be a part of this awesome community.

PS: If I don't stop watching this webcam at work, I'm gonna get in trouble!!!

I don't think Royal Hideaway has a beach right now. Royal Playa del Carmen is an adults only resort and the reviews have been excellent. Plus, you are close to town so you might get the urge to go check it out.

Welcome to the forum!

Last year we stayed at the Royal Playa del Carmen (well, it was the Royal Porto Real and it still allowed children)...it was fantastic. We ventured into town a lot, too. Check it out.

(Off topic...my best friend lives in Breaux Bridge )

I remember a while back when there was a direct flight from New Orleans to Cancun on Aeromexico. It was 1 1/2 hours door to door.

What happened to that?

Really ? That would be great. I have been going to the Roo for 5 years, so it must have been before that.
We have always flown out of Houston !

I heard they had some deals from Baton Rouge to Memphis(?) to Cancun last year. (about $159 rtpp)

Yeah - let's see...it was probably around 1998 - 99. We flew out of N.O. and stayed at the Ritz in Cancun. Sweet trip - short flight, short drive from the airport...but of course, as I soon found out, not nearly as relaxing as PDC.

Saints had a great season huh? Bummer they didn't pull off the win against the Bears. I think it would have been different if we played them in the dome.

You got that right !!!

There used to be another charter out of New Orleans before Katrina, but it never came back. It was pretty pricey.

Really?? I miss her so much...her hubby is out working on the oil rigs. They relocated after he got out of the Navy.

Just a question...I'm trying to convince her to come with us to Playa in September but we're having trouble finding a good deal for her especially with so many airports at her disposal (NOLA, BR, Houston...)...any tips??

Lots of oil field workers and service companys in this area !!

It is really pricey to fly out of BR and NOLA (and no direct flights) so we always fly out of Houston - funjet has some good charter prices out of Houston.

This year we have extra airmiles so we are flying out of Lafayette to Houston to Cancun. We get to leave early so we get to Cancun around 10. So that is like having extra vacation day !!!
