Petit Marrakesh
Has anyone tried, or heard anything about this place? It's Moroccan and is located on Calle Corazon. I love Middle Eastern food and would love to try it when I am there in Feb

I've hesitated to post my review of my b-day dinner at Petit Marrakesh because in the end it was tainted by an unfortunate attempt at bill padding by the waiter. The owner is as everyone says, gregarious, REALLY outgoing, and very interested in making sure everything is perfect. I didn't like my particular dish, sadly, which was filet mignon and shrimp in a sweet and sour sauce, but everyone else really liked theirs (and I liked theirs, too). The sauce was just a little too cloying and there was a bit too much of it; it overpowered the steak and shrimp.
The only real negative to my dining experience was the waiter we had. He was pretty surly through the whole meal--you know the feeling you get when you know the waiter is really unhappy in his job--and me and my friends are some of the easiest people in the world to wait on (former waitstaff myself). He made me uncomfortable but I was able to brush it off because the food/atmosphere were good and the owner was so personable. The bad part came when we got our bill. Michael added it several times and realized that although it was all itemized, the total was higher by over 200 pesos. He left the table so that he could quietly point it out to the waiter, who proceeded to vehemently insist that it was correct and that Michael had to pay that amount, and when Michael finally said, no, it's not, you should add it again with a calculator, he finally huffed, "It's propina!" Now, we don't mind when they add a propina, but it was not the "added gratuity" amount and it wasn't marked as such on the bill. He was just trying to rip us off. When the owner, who had been in the kitchen, heard the fuss, he came out and Michael explained what happened. He was very apologetic, we assured him we had a good time and then left. The owner was really bawling out the waiter when we left, but I didn't feel too sorry for him. He brought it on himself and maybe now he's waiting tables at some other unfortunate establishment. Too bad for him, too. We are very good tippers, except for when waiters try to rip us off. All in all, however, I want to stress that I did enjoy my meal very much at this restaurant.

Petite Marrakesh
Just wanted to let everyone know that I had the pleasure of eating at Petite Marrakesh with my family and Steve and Delmy Ryberg and the food was great.
The reastaurant is located on Calle Corazon just off of 5th Ave. Shortly after we arrived, the owner came by the table and proceeded to take all of our menu's from us. We were than informed that he would send out dishes for us that we would enjoy family style. Given that we had my 6, 9 and 12 year old daughters with us, I was not sure this would work out. I could not have been more wrong. All of the food served to us was amazing. It started with a salad of pears, peaches, lettuce, tomato and thinly sliced Salamon sashimi on top. The dressing was some type of balsamic vinagrette. It was outstanding. We were also served some type of white fish in a delicious sauce with artichoke hearts. My 12 year old daughters comment was "I don't like fish and I think this is great." There was also couscous with vegetables and a saffron rice with raisons. I also highly recommend the lemonade. I would definitely consider this one of the best meals I have had in Playa. My kids ate so much they barely had enough room to stop for ice cream after lunch. ![]() Last edited by jtm1631 : 03-14-2007 at 03:44 PM. |

Gonna have to check this place out in June...
This is the one on Calle Corazon, right? Not the middle eastern place next to Babe's north? P.S. JTM - is it you that gave me the Iraqi dinar? I have a TERRIBLE time connecting faces with handles with real names. If so, thanks SOOO much! Its the best souvenir I brought home from this trip!!! ![]() |
