March 8-11 Trip report

Arrived at o'hare 5:15 A.M. for a 7:00 flight traveling partners coworker met us at the international terminal to grab the car and park it at their lot (total travel time about 15min). Breezed through USA 3000 desk for boarding passes, and only about 5 people in front of us for security, made it rt through. Plane boarded on time but had to wait 10 min. for deicing. Great service on the plane juice service, breakfast sanwiches, and bar service after (made it thriugh the whole plane ride without starting to drink yet. Arrived at Cancun airport 20min early. Right through imigration green light for both of us at customs (carry on bags only). Quick pit stop, warned Bill about time share people straight shot out to wait for Playa info ride. Since our flight got in early, had to wait for driver so we got a couple cerveza's rt away. Driver was there right at scheduled time and we were whisked away to the van. Very informative and polite driver, between my little spanish and his little english we were able to have a decent conversation. (Little side note here, when we planned this weekend I had 3 goals, alot of drinking, alot of good eating, and a little snorkeling.) Drive was uneventful stopped about 20min. into the drive to pick up a six pack of pacifico.

Arrived at Casa del mar (think that was the name of it, it was the hotel in front of el pirata bar on the beach). First and only confusion of the trip when we walked in the young lady behind the desk said she wasn't expecting two men and had booked us in a room with 1 king size bed. She said she had a room with 2 double beds but it didn't have a T.V. and we could change rooms in the morning with a double with a T.V. in the morning. The double without the T.V. was fine, we knew we wouldn't be in the room except to sleep or shower anyways.

Sorry we didn't have a camera but I'll keep it going there are a few hazy areas and I don't remember many of the restaurant names but I'll cover as much as I can.

No sense of time, haven't had the batteries changed in my Dive watch and left my other waterproof watch sitting on my bathroom sink at home. Would have to guess it's about noon check out our room, 2 beds small bathroom place to put luggage and clothes very clean, a little nicer than I expected. Changed into swimsuits found chairs at el pirata, and ordered to Sols (I think, just sure it was beer and very cold) probably about 12:02 concept of time pretty much lost after this until morning we left. A little overcast but hey a bad day in Playa is better than a good day elsewhere. Drank, swam, layed in the sun and repeated until we got hungry. Went to check out some shops on 5th and have something to eat. Got a couple of good cigars, wandered the shops and checked out all the restaurants trying to decide where to eat. Wandered into a place, I believe it was called lemone or limones, you walk down some stairs to the restaurant and its open air with just a roof out on it. Bill ordered fish fajitas and I got shrimp and beef mixed fajitas. They brought salsa and chips to the table that were unbelievable (chips weren't very oily, almost perfect) and we knew we made a good choice. The fajitas were absolutely amazing.

Back to el pirata several more drinks with a Texan, and a Minesotan a light storm hit and we waited it out so we could go to the LBBB. I took a quick shower and we headed to the Luna Blue.

Get directions from Ruben at el pirata to Luna Blue, and we start the trek north enjoying the sites on 5th. The bash is going pretty good when we get there. Nerak came over and introduced herself right away, and we also got to meet lovely Cheri right away also. Got a couple of drinks and got a chance to talk to Tony for a few minutes, what a great guy would've thought he was an old friend with his friendly greeting. Talked to a few other peeps (sorry I'm terrible with names) and Susie stopped and introduced herself, everybody was really friendly. Ran into Mitch and talked to hime for a while and also had the great burgers. Since it was our first night there we wanted to check out more of the sights so we headed back down 5th. Wandered into the bear bucket and this became my nightly home for the next three nights. Had a couple of drinks right away and my buddy was pretty much done for the night, (it was about 8:30) he headed back to the hotel and I just hung out for a while and people watched. Sharkie was holding court on the other end of the bar and invited me to come hang.
