Cigars & Tequila

We will be staying in PDC for a month this summer.
We were there for a short period last summer. I would like to know if anyone knows a 'trustworthy' place to buy good cigars. I didn't try to buy any there but when I was in Cozumel I was in a shop that looked pretty legit but as I discussed the fact that I was traveling through the US and was worried about taking Cuban cigars he was only to glad to replace the band with a band from another country of origin. (Somehow he didn't think that would shake my confidence in whether they were counterfits or not.)
Anyway, if anyone has any info it would be appreciated and if anyone would like to get together for a good cigar and some average Tequila over the summer I would appreciate the company. (the wife isn't super big on either)

Try Good tequila and an average cigar, you'll get a better response

Of course! The problem with that is you offer up "good tequila" and you end up buying snifters at $130 a pop.
Sure there are great inexpensive tequilas but I wasn't setting myself up for some lecherous soul that wanted to sample the "good" stuff.
However I guess the same could be said of a fine cigar.

I hate to tell you this, but on my last visit to Playa, I found a "fair" selection of cigars at a small shop inside the Wal-Mart building (by the check-out stalls.) There is no way I can verify authenticity, but would think they are "legit." I figured that Mexican cigars would be more likely to be "real," and less expensive, and the "Te Amo" brand was recommended to me. I liked them enough to purchase a box at Duty-Free to take home! The Cubans that I purchased at the same shop - "Monte Cristo" - were certainly good.

Someone has already posted that the Tequila selection, and prices, at Wal-Mart are difficult to beat (except for the truely rare brands.) I drink Rum, and found Wal-Mart to have a few mid-priced offerings that I didn't see elsewhere (Flor de Cana.)

It my opinion the only place to buy an authenic Cuban cigar is at La Casa del Habanos on 5th ave. I'm going to guess around 28th. Have fun.

Will be a frequent stopping place of mine for the summer. Thanks for the tip. I do mostly smoke Cubans but I'm not a snob. I'll give the Mexican ones a go. Besides a lot of the best Cuban rollers have left Cuba. Bad for Cuba good for Cigars in general.

The Dominicans and Hondurans are & have been making great cigars. Give them a try. Bring them from home. Much cheaper.
