The cellphone shop I use is on 3oth between 4th and 6th. Convieniently across from an El FOGON. They should be able to fix you up with a mexican chip! Then go eat Tacos al Pastor at FOGON, simply the best!

I also have t-mobile. I just got back from Zihua three weeks ago. I called t-mobile before I left and told them I would be in Mexico and I wanted to find out about rates. They gave me information which I found out later was all wrong. It was 1.49 per minute and .35 cents per text! If you get a sim card down there do you not have to pay these rediculous prices from t-mobile? If you do I wouldn't use your phone unless its an emergency!

cell phone in mexico

apparently if you call tmobile they can unlock your phone. When you get to Mexico you can buy a sim card and I beleive it will get you close to .32 per minute. Don't know if tmobile to tmobile is any cheaper. I will have to wait and see. It takes 48 to 72 hours to unlock your phone so you need to call ahead of time.

What about Verizon

Anybody use Verizon service down there. I called service and they told me to dial *223 and follow the directions the day before we leave then again when we get home. He said you should have most if not all your features while there? Anybody else have any experience using Verizon cell phones in Playa?

We add international calling every year before we leave, then just cancel it when we get back.

Did my brother-in-law join the forum? And, yes, we do exactly the same thing.

I have Cingular w/ International turned on. It works really well in Mexico & Europe. I think the cost is around $0.79 a minute. Not to bad but, then I don't have to pay the bill.

The only thing I need the international calling to is to remind my mother to be at the gate to pick us up at the airport when we arrive, 2 years ago when we went to Puerto Vallarta I ended up spending $90 on a 2 minute phone call back to Dallas from the PVR airport. At the time I did not know it until I got home and checked the cc bill online
