Riu Playacar

 To anyone having stayed at Riu Playacar, did you have trouble with damp sheets there? How many sit down restaurants were there? I know that you have to make reservations very early in the morning. I have heard news of damp sheets and that concerns me. I am looking forward to my husband and I staying a week there in May. Also, do you have to push the beds together or are they already pushed together?

Thanks!

Playacar trip

We just returned from Playacar March 30, and I can tell you that your going to have a great time with or without damp sheets!! Everyone on this board worried about little things so much, but once your there nothing much seems to matter. Yes there was a slight musty smell, but we brought air freshners and took care of that. Next thing we did was crank up the airconditioner, which took all the damp air out. So many people just let the breezes cool the room, but it is sooooo humid there you have to use airconditioning. Yes you do have to sign up in the morning for the steak house, but not a lot of variety to choose from. Hope you have a great time and look forward to your report!

I've stayed there, in December, and I loved it. I did not find the sheets damp, and the beds are already pushed together. Don't fret about the little things, its a vacation, relax and enjoy the atmosphere!

Rui Playacar

Stayed at the Rui last winter. I felt like I was at an adult camp. Your table is assigned to you for dinner, and you remain at that spot for the duration...yuck!
Men must wear pants to dinner. This might be an European thing....wear nothing during the day, and dress up at night.
We like more freedom in our decisions.
We have been to cancun-playa around 7 times. If you have small children, the Gala is great! They have a camp for kids with two pools, a main pool, and an adult pool.
I would be happy to answer any questions.

Riu Playacar has stopped the long pants for dinner thing about three weeks ago. We just got back and people are wearing just about anything (some look worse than they would to go to the golden arches at home).

If you don't like your seat at dinner, you can request another, they have more than enough open tables, even in high season.

Air conditioning can malfunction due to the magnetic switch on the patio/balcony door. Our A/C wouldn't work at all until I jumped the switch with a piece of wire (next day, I put both wires under the same screw; situation resolved.

Riu knows they have a musty smell problem and their solution short term (they won't tell you this, they just do it when you are out of your room) is to put coffee grounds in a glass somewhere in your room. I don't think it works as well as they think, but it helps.

rui playacar

Do not waste your money on the Riu Playacar. The sheets were damp, rooms are dark, and the smell of raw sewage waifted up through the shower drain. If I wouldn't have had to go back to my room at night, it would have been great. But, if you are like me, and vacations come hard earned, then you don't want to waste a once a year vacation on the Riu Playacar where the rooms are really bad and the food is mediocre. Espically when there are so many other resorts in Playa del Carmen that are clearly more resosrt like!!

That is one southerns opinion.

riu playacar

My husband and I and 2 of our friends stayed at the riu playacar for 8 days in early may. All 4 of us had a blast . Bam must of been at another resort because the food was great by the end of the week the variety was getting a little tiring but hey I didn;'t have to cook or do dishes. The room was gorgous, housekeeping does a great job. We took plug in air freshners and plugged one in right when we got there and we never had any musty odors. Also as mentioned crank your air conditioner to avoid damp sheets. The humidity is high outside just dont let it in.... We would return now if we could afford it.....
