Mini Trip Report-Commando and Eileencc Hit the (Cold) Beach

Commando and I squeezed in an overnight getaway to one of our favorite places, Cape Cod, Massachusetts on Saint Patrick's night. Visited some favorite places, had some great food, listened to some great Irish music and just had a wonderful time. We took a few pictures, and I thought I'd share them with my RFFs...

We stayed at the Ocean Edge Resort, in Brewster, which is a large complex perched right on the um...ocean edge...I forgot to take pictures of the outside of the building, but it is a beautiful place, and I grabbed a shot from their website.

The hotel is actually on the bay side of Cape Cod, but the Cape is so narrow at this point that you're not far from the Atlantic Ocean.

It's a large resort with its own private golf course, and we stayed in a condo on the gold course. Very comfy accommodations...

After settling in for a while with our son, we headed out for dinner at our absolute favorite Cape Cod restaturant, Clancy's of Dennis. Great Irish bar, with a fantastic atmosphere on St. Patty's Day. We listened to an assortment of Irish bands play while we waited for our table. When we finally had dinner, it was corned beef and cabbage for Charlie, Veal Oscar for me, and a Philly Cheesesteak for our son Chris. OMG, that Veal Oscar was to die for. The freshest, tenderest veal I ever had, with large chunks of lobster meat, tender asparagus, with a delicious bearnaise sauce. I was the happiest camper at the table, although both my boys really enjoyed their meals too!

After dinner, we went hunting for ice cream sundaes (no we weren't hungry, but I was just in the mood for an ice cream--go figure.) Anyway, we never found an ice cream stand open--which was odd, because in the summer time, you can't drive a block without coming to an ice cream stand.

Not to worry...the next day, we got up and swam off all our extra calories in one of the hotel pools. God must have been trying to remind me about my diet, because when we checked out of the hotel, we left all our delectable left-overs (including half of my Veal Oscar) in the room's refrigerator.

Anyway, we bopped around the Cape for most of the day on Sunday, visiting Nauset Beach, which is another favorite of ours, winter or summer. The surf was amazingly high, and the ocean was very photogenic. See for yourself...

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that it was FREEZING outside! Man! Here's my hubbie, Nanook of the North!

And here's me with Chris...both of us looking a little windblown!

What a gorgeous spot though...the sky was amazing. So many shades of gray and blue...the remains of a big storm were moving off, and it was very blustery...

Here's Charlie and Chris...looking warmer...

I loved this piece of fence among the dunes...

We moved on to another pretty spot, Cape Cod Light in Chatham...

And finally, before heading home, we had to head to one last favorite spot. Whenever we go to the Cape, we try to revisit the "scene of the crime," the spot where Charlie and I first laid eyes on each other...It was a hot July night, and the drinks were flowing on the deck at Snowdens. (Since renamed Sundancers.)

Here's the historic spot, where I was sitting with my friend Nancy, drinking 2-for-1 Happy Hour Cape Codders, when Charlie walked in with his posse...Looks a little cold and desolate in March, but trust me, it was HOT that night! But that's a story for another thread.

We didn't go in...we just sat in the parking lot and explained to Chris that if not for this place, there might be no "Mom and Dad" and therefore, "no Chris." He didn't like that too much!

So that's it in a nutshell...our sorta romantic beach getaway. It was fun, but I sure wish I could have been wearing a few less layers of clothing as we walked that beach!

Nice weekend! Sorry it was so cold, but it was very pretty. A few more weeks and you'll be parka-less!!

The sad part is that we've already had several days above 60 degrees, so this just seemed so much colder! I'm a summer girl anyway. Give me the warm!

Hi Jerry! They are all over the Cape, and I ALWAYS love to stop at the big Christmas Tree Shop right at the Sagamore Bridge when leaving the Cape. (Charlie--and all men--hate it!)

But now that they installed the "flyover" you don't even realize you're off the Cape until you're past the CTS! Sadly, there was no Christmas Tree Shop stop for me!

It's funny that you say that because we were saying that ourselves. We were talking about how surfers would love to "shoot those curls" that we were seeing. We saw some gorgeous waves. You'd freeze your bits off surfing in that tho!

(I'll take some of your nice warm San Diego weather right about now if you want to trade for some nice surfing waves. )
