We are at thr RPDC April 7 -14. We upgraded to the Ocean front Master Suite. My sis-in-law did not & will have a junior suite. We will be able to see if the $$ difference is worth it. This is the first time I've heard about the Chef's Table. It sounds good.
Did anyone use the online check-in? Any tips? Thanks for all the info everyone. Mark - sorry for jumping in on your thread.

It depends on who you book with. Air Canada has more room options available than Transat. We booked thru Transat and the upgrade was $2000. That made our total about $5500. Other posts on here & tripadvisor have said you can upgrade when you check in for $40 per nite usd. But that would depend on availability. We are there thru easter & did not want to take the chance. I really hope it is worth it.

We did notice when we were there Feb. 17th to March 2nd that Asiana's was open for lunch the second week of our stay. Not sure if we missed that the first week or if it was just added that week. Where is the tapas restaurant Abraham??
Chef's Table might not have been fully operational when you were there. Our second day (March 10th), the Marie Maria sign was replaced with a sign for the Chef's Table, and we ate there the following night. Asiana was open for lunch.

The tapas restaurant is across the bar from Pelicanos, on the side opposite the beach. It has about a half-dozen tables in a raised, covered area and a handful more in open air on the patio along Constituyentes with a view of GPR, the pier and a sliver of the GPR beach. It was pretty darn good imho. Ate there several times for lunch as the buffet wasn't really up our alley.

Yeah I kind of hijacked this thread too, sorry

fwiw, we used the online check-in and got precisely the room we reserved when we arrived. If you used a TA like Funjet or Apple, call the resort directly to get your Real reservation number. The number your TA gives you will likely not match up with Real's number, and that's the one you'll need to check in online. I was able to check in online at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday for a 3:00 Friday arrival. Reserved #516 and that is what we got.

The Master Suites are awesome and imho would be worth the extra cost. They are massive and have a full-blown living room and dining room. Room service breakfast was a pain in the Jr. Suites as you have a postage stamp of a table.

I would try to avoid a ground floor Master, as your porch would front the pool with Pelicanos directly next door. Lots of foot traffic in that area.

So, do you have the number to the resort?

We did use the on-line reservation, and it worked like a charm- got the room we wanted. We were there 3/10-17, and had oceanfront third floor Jr. Suite. I agree with Abraham at how the VERY loud wedding didn't allow alot of sleep the first night there. We would never book a room at that location again, as an afternoon siesta isn't possible with all of the pool activities that involve a microphone and again, very loud music. I think I'd be willing to do the extra walking and go into the new building FAR away from the pool area- since we're there for the beach anyways.
One thing that truly bothered us, and I'm amazed I've never read any one else complaining about this...the sales pitch they give you within a day of arrival to "buy" some weeks of discounted vacations. The very nice guest service lady invites you to go on a tour, and have breakfast or lunch and listen to a "presentation" for 90 minutes. They give you a nice bag, and promise you $50 off resort amentities. They started at $89,000 and get down to almost nothing....I'm not going on vacation to be hit up to buy anything! When you finally get angry and say NO!!!!...they send you to ANOTHER "hit man" to just try to get your promised $50 coupon. We were there for 3 hours of our hard earned vacation, and truly resented the intrusion. We just wanted to go and relax, and have a good time, not waste time on a very iffy scheme. When we went to Secrets Capri, we never encountered anything like that.
RPDC is a nice resort, food was fair, service very good, people pleasant, nice beach, close to town. On a scale of 1-10, (10 being excellent)I'd give it a 8, and that's mostly because of the sleazy sales pitch at the start of our vacation. Warn everyone you know to say NO WAY!!!! (Unless you just like to yank their chain and take free gifts...but I'd rather have my three hours of time on the beach back!!!!)

is the number that I called...reservations and not the resort itself. Was given Real's reservation number and the rep actually waited on the phone until she could see on her end that I was in the reservation system

Yeah Saturday was like trying to sleep in a nightclub. UGh.

Luckily for us, the timeshare sharks apparently believe that the young are too poor to buy weeks, lol. I am 31, she's 29 and they never, ever approached us once. Not a single phone call or visit, never even made eye contact.

Looked to us as though they had gotten every middle-aged person in the resort

Oh yeah....they know who to hit up!!!! Just thought I should mention it so others can avoid their precious vacation time being used up! It was a great time, although we'll probably go to Secrets again, as we did like the fact that no Spring breakers would be around at all! I enjoyed the diversity, but my other half prefers just us OLD folks!

When you check in, they "invite" you to stop at the "Guest Services" desk before you head off to your room. They don't mention what you need to do this for, but this is the time share sales desk. Just don't go, it's that simple - OK, only simple if you read what is written here and have advanced notice as to what Guest Services is really about. I never went to the desk and no one ever bothered me while I was there. Secrets doesn't do this because they don't sell time shares.

Thank God for all the helpful tips on this site. We never went to guest services and never got bothered or called all week.

I almost crapped my pants when I realized that around 30-40 high schoolers were at RPDC together on some kind of spring break trip. There were FAR too many kids under 18 along with their parents or in such groups, imho. One night, I shoulder-tackled some stupid 15-year-old who was running around with a group of kids knocking over signs and otherwise defacing private property. The security guys had short legs and this kid was like a gazelle, so I did them a little favor We heard them go by about three times before I opened the door to see sweaty, wide-eyed securidad dudes chasing a bunch of gringitos around the resort. Saw them kick two signs down and lost my patience. Bunch of little creeps giving us all a bad name, imho What the heck is wrong with people If I'd have done that when I was younger, my dad would have ripped me a new one

I should probably note here that the young kids were really the main reason we would reconsider ever returning to RPDC. We met a couple very nice Canadian girls from different families who were with their parents and two great guys from the high school group, so I don't want to paint them with too broad a stripe. But there was definitely some overly juvenile stuff going on due to their presence.
