As of November 2006, the Royal PDC is an adults only resort. However, they had to honor the contracts with people/tour operators that had booked prior to the change. There were a few kids there in December, and when I spoke to the one of the managers, I was told that after the spring break/Easter time frame has passed, that should be about it - minus a stray rugrat here and there.

That was exactly what I wondered while there. I would assume any reservations with children prior to the change would have to be honored. Next year at this time I would hope it's truly adults-only.

Wife & I will arrive RPDC 4/8. Relatively new to posting on this forum, but in reply to markincanada's original post, "considering RPDC', I can say this; we have traveled to the Cancun and PDC area since 1984. We were at RPDC last April with our daughter & her husband, our son and his wife, and other long time travel companions. We all loved it and had a wonderful time. Also, I must say that this is one of the most informative, civil, and 'on topic' threads that I have read. So, many 'worry' about room no's., the 'food', the 'view', etc. etc. and I guess that is what these forums are for. However, why do we go there at all?? Because it's frigin beautiful, it's warm, and it ain't Canada (although beautiful as well) or the USA (most beautiful) and Ohio has no beach (sorry about that Cleveland). Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with the RPDC and above all else, 'enjoy' wherever you stay.

While we were there a couple with two small children from the resort next door came over to the pool. They never made it past the bridge and the security guy came and escorted them off the property. It was nice to see that they are on top of things and only allowing RPDC guest to be there. We must have just missed the teenagers.

I'm all about cheering on the rest of the Big11 unless it's against the Hawkeyes Used to be that at Iowa wrestling was a good distraction this time of year, now even that is painful to watch

We were told during our "presentation" by guest services that it is Adults only- and children above age 16. So, sounds like it may still be a place where there will be teenagers in the resort. I agree, there are definitely some great young adults, and then there's always those that give them a bad name. Glad you were there to help out security!

When I was at the royal, I asked the GM about age requirements..His reply was minimum age would be 16..There were exceptions until prebooked and prepaid stays were no longer honored..Seems some Europeans book quite early for later stay's....

I have heard the ages 16 and up thing as well but I can tell you that the suppliers I use to book this hotel will not allow me to pull a price if I have anyone on the reservation that is under age 18.

The message I get:

*Please be advised that after November 1, 2006, the Royal Porto Real Resort and Spa will become an 'adults only' concept hotel. No new reservations with children under the age of 18 will be accepted at the property. All current reservations with children will be honored.

I would like to see 18 as a minimum requirement for an adults only resort..If the royal allow's 16 year olds, then they should have a different bracelet from the adults.....
Also I would think it prudent to have a 18 only with adult (21 or older)..Just to keep the spring breakers out....

that's a good idea. We love our son, but there's a reason we are going on a vacation without him and kids are kids, whether they are 5 or 16 as far as I'm concerned. I don't understand why "adults only" resorts do that-that was the same way RH was when we were there. Hope that doesn't sound too harsh, b/c I love kids, but if I'm going to an adult's only, it's for a reason.

Also edited to add...You have to be 18 in Mexico to drink Alcohol and vote...Is that not the meaning of an adult...Do the Royal and other adult only's need to address this ?? I would think so...
