We have Kenmore front loaders (washer & dryer).
They have worn well. Kenmore always seems to score well in Consumer Reports, and we've been happy. The guy who repairs our high-end Subzero fridge and freezer recommends the Neptune series, too. |

When we moved into this house 3 years ago, there were 4 year old stacked Kenmores. I think they had heavy use prior to us buying the house. The washer got to the point where I thought it might go into orbit. I think it had to do with too much detergent and the bearings. Bob repaired it once. About a year ago, we had more problems, and he was going to order more parts. I on the other hand, was tired of the problems we had with this machine, and we went shopping.
We could get the same machine (so we could continue to stack) for $700+. Or we could buy a top loading for about $340. Hmmm, buy the same model we had lots of problems with or save close to $400--what to do??? I once again have a top loading Kenmore. I like not having to bend down to load/unload the washer. I usually wash small loads, so I set the water level low. But, If I had the extra money to spend, I would get the Neptunes on the pedestals. They look awesome! |

When I finally get off my butt and start lookin' for a single-family house, having a washer/dryer RIGHT THERE will be such a luxury, no matter what style they are! As a matter of fact, David's father's washer is currently stored in a friend's basement just waiting to be moved into whatever house I eventually buy!

I bought mine back in April '06, a Whirlpool Duet 3.8 cu for $997 before rebate. I absolutely love it! Drives my husband nuts but I research things to death before investing in them and this won out for me over the others for several reasons:
- Flexibilty of cycles (as far as time and temps) - Has a delicate cycle as well as a hand washable cycle - Option to stack and optional below storage drawer (laundry room is TINY!) - Reviews from other consumers - Stainless steel drum - reversible door These are great machines in general... less water and electricity consumption plus, because they spin so well, you save on the dry time/ electric as well! |

Okay I finally decided...Whew! Went with an old favorite....Kenmore. The dryer is 6.7cu ft & the washer is 3.5. I actually am not buying them until after April 12th..the nice lady at Sears looked in the computer & found that the set is going an extra $350 on sale then....
I can wait! Thanks everyone for your input! |

Oh & I am such a tool...I didnt buy the pedestals because I figured it would be too high for the cats to jump...I have to have their food on top of the dryer so the dogs don't eat it...

Apparently a lot of Maytag owners are not happy with their washing machines, my brother got his replaced (free) for another brand. They have had a few recalls and at least on class action suit filed.

Lots of people dream about being insanely wealthy, others want to be famous singers or actors. I dream about someday owning a front-loading washer and dryer.
