Is This What You Voted For?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...032201883.html
The most ethical Congress in history bribes members to vote for a bill that even the Washington Post can't stomach. No wonder they are spending most of their time on fishing expeditions. |

Standard practice by both parties in DC. Save your indignation for the next time the Repubs have an opportunity to do it. It is politics. It is how it has been done for over 100 years in DC and for centuries in human history. You may not like the outcome this time, but other times the outcome has been ones that would have proven more pleasing to you. I am shocked, shocked that politics happened in Washington D.C. |

...we sit back and wait for the admin's plan of withdrawal and that changes everything? Makes everything worthwhile? Sad indeed. |

Loading up bills with pork is nothing new. Claiming that you will be the most ethical Congress in history, is. Loading up a bill with pork that determines the destiny of our soldiers, in order to get it passed, is a new twist and hardly ethical. When the Washington Post calls a Democratic congress out, you know it stinks. Spin all you want, but this one is going to cost the Dems bigtime.

Nothing new there. We'll see what the cost is. You could be right, but I wouldn't bet on it. It is distasteful and part of your continuing disinformation campaign to say it is spinning. But then, you pattern yourself after those Fox News guys |

Is it Fox News or the Washington Post? I like to get my input from a lot of different sources. |

Yes IT is sad...but you don't have to feel sorry for me. (btw.. that is sooo shallow of a statement and a cheap shot) The Bush years have been very good for us and our retirement is already set in stone. We have everything we need and we are prepared for most anything the future brings us. Slim and I are very very happy. The only thing we are not prepared for is having to pay the higher taxes that the dems will force on us...If they are smart..they will wait till after the 2008 elections to spring it on us...but I doubt it...thats the best thing they know how to do. Other cheap shots: you have to be joking I thought better of you than that you can't be serious!!! Last edited by Seakony : 03-25-2007 at 03:18 AM. |

As you may recall, the overwhelming majority of US voters are not at all satisfied with the way this administration has managed the war. While many may be willing to give war a chance with the surge strategy (and I understand this is the 3rd or 4th time we have had a surge in troop numbers), many feel that the time is past for this. Further, the majority of the American people do not believe this administration is telling the truth about the war effort and how it is going. How can this be, you may ask? At the same time that cautiously optimistic statements are coming from our Generals and more optimistic things from such well known tellers of the truth as Dick Cheney, a rocket attack against the UN leader is nearly successful and the number 2 politician in the Iraqi Government is suicide bombed by a member of his own security detail. These are not readily apparent signs that the security situation is improving. Unfortunately, back in 2004-05 when the strategy currently being undertaken would have had a far better chance for success, Rumsfeld was opposed to it and Bush was busy praising Rumsfeld. The Bush administration, much like Nero, fiddled while Bagdhad burned and it is too late to do much about it and the US people know it. The responsibility for that lies not with the people who want our troops home, it lies with the Administration that has been responsible for the conduct of the war since it was launched. That is my take on it. There will be no political price to pay for the vote in Congress or for the practice of politics as usual that garnered the vote. The American people are in favor of the result of the vote. The rest is an inside the Beltway story and game that most folks will not pay much attention to.
