Flush Toilets
Related to the other thread...
We had a bit of a mini sewage disaster outside my recently purchased condo (If you were there and had to see it we're sorry!). Apparently it was caused by toilet paper clogging the pipes. Some have suggested that we should refrain from using TP in the complex. Is this the only reasonable solution? I'm certain that the hotels and restaurants don't have this problem on a regular basis. Do we just have substandard plumbing leading to the mains? I have a hard time imagining that our guests would be happy to have to use a bin beside the toilet for disposal. Sorry for this "stinky" thread but would appreciate responses from any with experience. |

I thought it was common practice not to flush the TP in Playa, but instead place it in the basket. |

Since I have never stayed in Playacar, but only in town, there was a "no flush" policy (ie, basket next to the toilet) just about everywhere we went/stayed. The OP seemed to not realize that when he said "I'm certain that the hotels and restaurants don't have this problem on a regular basis" |

I thought not flushing was SOP down there.
As long as you have maid service every day, which we always have wherever we stayed, it hasn't been a huge problem. A bit odd to adjust to, but ... And it felt very decadent to come home and flush away! ![]() |

NOT flushing toilet paper is all but 100% the norm down here. Sorry, but I think it's a "when in Rome" situation. No biggie to take the trash out once a day. Just always keep a bag/liner in the trash can so it can easily be picked up and tossed.
EDIT: And yes, hotels (other than larger resorts with their own waste processing options) and restaurants do have this issue too. Nearly all of them have a sign asking that all paper (or other bathroom "products") be placed in waste cans and NOT in toilets. The sewage system down here just simply can't handle it.
