Hey guys, sorry to do this, but it looks like CommieFest just won't happen this year. I was not getting much in the way of my requests for RSVPs and deposits on the van transportation and boats. Also, Kelli and I have a lot going on personally right now. Sorry to do this to you guys, but perhaps we can try again next summer.
Meantime, if you have made a hotel reservation, you can certainly cancel at this point without penalty. But PLEASE remember to cancel, especially if you've secured with a credit card!!! ![]() COMRADES! You are hereby invited to the First Annual CommieFest Peep meet-up party weekend in Austin, Texas, July 6-8, 2007! Please join us for weekend peep event including: 1) bar crawling around Austin’s famous 6th street club district Friday and Saturday nights; 2) a day on Lake Travis at the floating party at Devil’s Cove; and 3) Sunday brunch at the wonderful Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill! Austin is a beautiful city nestled in the heart of the Texas hill country. It is home to the University of Texas at Austin, the largest university in Texas and one of the largest in the nation (and alma mater to your host!) For those of you not familiar with Austin’s club scene, here are a few photos: ![]() ![]() And a few links: http://austin.about.com/cs/sixthstreet/p/sixthstreet.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6th_Street http://www.6street.com/ http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/downtown/sixthmap.htm Lake Travis is a beautiful man-made lake about 30 minutes outside of Austin. Every weekend during the warm months, there is a giant "floating party" in "Devil’s Cove." There is even a floating restaurant where you can call in your order and have it delivered on a dinghy! I have made arrangements to rent several pontoon boats and have arranged for transportation to and from downtown Austin. (No need for any designated drivers!) Some pics of the party at Devil’s Cove: ![]() ![]() ![]() Here are a few Devil's Cove party links (warning - a few of the pictures on the links are PG-13!): http://blog.manontheground.net/traveller/2004/12/lake_travis_dev.html http://blog.manontheground.net/traveller/2004/12/lake_travis_dev.html And finally, brunch at the Moonshine Patio Bar& Grill has become a tradition for Kelli and I on our Austin weekends. Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful setting with absolutely awesome food. A link to the restaurant is as follows: http://moonshinegrill.com/ I've reserved a block of 20 rooms at the Hampton Inn and Suites in downtown Austin (easy walking distance to 6th street!) at a discounted rate of $109.00 per night for a regular room with a king or two doubles OR $129.00 per night for a larger room with a King and a pull out sofa. Please make your reservations by contacting the hotel DIRECTLY at (512) 472-1500. Tell them you are making a group reservation for "CommieFest." A link to this hotel is as follows: http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/en/hp/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=AUSDTHX A tentative schedule of events is as follows: Friday, July 6: 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.: Dinner somewhere in or near downtown Austin (location to be determined). 10:30 p.m.: Meet up in the lobby of the Hampton Inn for some serious bar crawling! Saturday, July 7: 10: 30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.: A day on the lake at Devil’s Cove, followed by dinner and drinks next door to the marina at one of the big hot spots on Lake Travis (everyone goes there after a day on Devil’s Cove to keep the party going). I will plan on having us back in downtown Austin by 10:00 p.m. so anyone who wants to go out Saturday night will have time to shower and change. 10:30 p.m.: Meet up in the lobby of the Hampton Inn for some more serious bar crawling! Sunday, July 8: 9:30 a.m. Meet at the Moonshine Patio Bar and Grill for Sunday brunch. The actually don’t open until 10:00 a.m., but people start lining up early, this place is VERY popular and they don’t take reservations. ALL ARE INVITED, AND I HOPE YOU CAN ATTEND! In addition to the cost of transportation and your hotel stay, the cost for round trip transportation to the lake will be approximately $20.00 per person. The cost of the boat rental (7 to 8 hours) will be approximately $40.00 per person. Because I am going to personally guarantee the transportation and boat rental reservations with my own personal credit card, I am asking that peeps who would like to attend PLEASE prepay for these costs by sending me a check or via paypal. If you are attending, please send me a PM, and I will give you my mailing address or paypal account information. My estimate of the costs is approximate. If I’m over or under, it shouldn’t be by much and I’ll just settle up with everyone that weekend. PLEASE PLEASE RSVP BY MAY 15TH, 2007! HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
