Well, not quite up as early as I thought, hit Denver rush hour traffic (uggh), missed first light in the Park, but had a wonderful time in RMNP. Such an amazing and beautiful place. Always makes me smile when I come over the hill and see the majestic peaks for the first time.

Snowshoed to a lake called, The Loch. Hadn't been there in quite some time (at least 10 years) and man did it make me feel old. Some very steep sections (photos doesn't adequately show how steep it is nor how windy), but you kind of get the idea from this shot...

One section near the top was wind blown so there was no trail and felt like I was walking on about a one foot path with drop offs on either side. I don't remember it messin' with my mind that much the last time I was there.

But, all worth it upon reaching the top...

That's not a dirty lens, just blowing snow. I had my tripod with me and was worried during this shot that the damn thing would blow over because of the wind.

When you are constantly walking on top of the snow you really don't realize how deep it actually is until you get a visual reminder...

Cheryl was really jealous that she had to work and couldn't get away. Just means we'll have to go again soon when she can get the time off. I absolutely love the place! What a wonderful day, in my little version of Paradise!

Have I mentioned lately that I hate everybody West of the Mississippi and east of the Ohio??

I so Love being able to walk outside my house... climb a three foot step ladder and be able to look at a house 5 miles from me with the naked eye.

Sure we have great, deep, and Rich farmland(you would have to dig 10 foot or more to start hitting clay) but it sure ain't much to look at.

We are defiantly moving west someday...(sigh)

GREAT pictures Manitou!!! Thanks for letting me live through your LENS!!!!

Manitou, do I have to tell you again how much I enjoy your pics? These hikes are something I will never have the chance to do so I enjoy sort of 'living' them through you. Thanks!

Andrea

hrlydavison, What a great description and so true. If it weren't for the curvature of the Earth it's as if you could see forever! I grew up in Iowa so can truly empathize with your current state. I worked in the fields of which you speak as I worked for a seed corn company in northern Iowa. In the spring, seeing those green plants begin to poke through that black soil is indeed beautiful. But, like you, I wanted to live near the mountains and have done so now for the past 25 years. I hope your dream becomes reality soon and hope these photos I post are inspiration for you.

Andrea, thanks, again, for the very kind words. My whole intent in posting them here is so folks can see this part of the world. As I said, it is indeed a little piece of paradise. A bit cooler than other places, but still amazing!

I'll have a full blog on my blogsite in a day or so... until then, here's a few pics of the Circle of Friends Grande Ball that was tonight. Totally awesome event.

For those who don't know, the Circle of Friends is a group at Michael's high school that strives to bridge that gap between regular ed and special ed students. They have a number of events throughout the school year, but the Grande Ball is by far the biggest. The whole evening is so well organized and pretty. And families come to share this special "prom" with their children.

I put a bunch of pictures and started a new thread here:

Snow Snow Go Away!!

It has been snowing here in Nova Scotia for 30 hours. We are sick of it. We need another trip south. We need to move to the south.....
