That's a great shot, NM! Whenever you can get the face and the ball you done good! Plus you have a nice buttery background there so the focus is totally on the action, nothing distracting in the background. Way to go!

Please, share more!

Our First Snowstorm

This highway about 30 miles from where I live was shut down for hours yesterday stranding approx. 1500 vehicles overnight.

I'd rather snow than rain. Chilly is just chilly. I have a sister in Vancouver so familiar with BC weather woes.

How in the world was the highway shut down for 15 hours?? Don't they have protocol for clearing accidents?

the article says:

Quote:
The whole problem was that there was six or eight inches of snow on the road and not a single piece of snow-clearing equipment on that road,” he said.

“They just weren't ready for it and there was no excuse for that on that highway.”
That is pretty bad. Someone will be in big trouble for that f*-up! I guess it was a pretty bad storm and earlier than normal maybe?

Yeah, I read that- still doesn't make sense Get some equipment out there- you can at least clear out in front of the accident. Something similar happened around Boston at rush hour a couple of years ago. Storm came in quicker than predicted, equipment wasn't out, and traffic was totally stopped. ALL of the roads were jammed with motorists and fender-benders. It didn't take 15 hours to fix the problem- more like 4 or 5. I think there must be some information missing from the article, because it really shouldn't have taken that long to clear up.

There wasn't an accident. The large transport trucks couldn't make the hills so they had to stop- that simply backed up traffic- which didn't allow the plows to clear the road until this morning.

I drove from Halifax last night and it wasn't pleasant. Traction wasn't the problem, but visibility was poor. Took me about an hour longer than usual.

Transport Minister has promised a full investigation and new procedures so this doesn't happen again.

Still unacceptable.

We were in Charleston, SC for the majority of the week. I had a conference to attend so Sandy tagged along. On Thursday, we had the chance to walk around the city...using a "walking tour" guide book, we wandered about taking in the history. Absolutely beautiful city. Here's a slide show and a couple of my favorite shots.

Slideshow of Charleston

In one graveyard, this tree had started to engulf this tombstone

I actually thought about you and your place as we went tooling through North Carolina! But, given my apparent penchant for speed, I was through the state in a blinding flash with State Troopers looking at each other astounded by what had just blasted by them!

Our backyward had a visit from a Cooper's Hawk this morning.

He let me get in close and I got a few pictures.

It was pretty cool to get up that close to a wild hawk
