Mayte and Alex from Bloody Chicas and Keith's Bar

Yesterday morning, my friends Mayte and Alex, who are the proprietors of Bloody Chicas restaurant, were in a bad car accident. A man driving too fast flew through an intersection and hit their car right in the passenger door, where Alex was sitting. Mayte has a broken pelvis, but is otherwise ok. Alex initially seemed fine, but later collapsed and went into surgery to remove her ruptured spleen. The DR. says Alex is going to be fine. I spent yesterday at the hospital with friends; Mayte, while tired and a little loopy, is in good spirits and making jokes.

Once again, I'm blown away by the way this community pulls together...when Alex was in surgery and needed blood, we sent messages around and in minutes had a number of willing donors.

Tony and Cheri from Luna Blue have graciously set up a PayPal account to help Mayte and Alex, but it will take a day or two for it to take effect.

In the meantime, you can go here and go the reservations page to donate whatever amount you like. In the comments, please just put "Donation for Mayte and Alex" so that Tony and Cheri will know what the money is for. They can turn this around immediately to give to the girls.

Heather.......my heart goes out to all of you.................this brings back terrible memories for me with my daughter's accident..........
The pelvis is one of the most painful breaks according to Blaine's orthopedic surgeon.
Just know I am thinking of you and your friends and sending good thoughts and prayers your way today............

Echoing what Jimmy-James said. Let us know if they need anything. I'm glad that they are both expected to heal okay. But, it'll be a while before either can work.

Well, I know they are going to be hurting financially. Keith's bar was just forced out of business and now Mayte and Alex won't be able to cook at BC's for a long time. I also know they would never never never ask for any help, so I am trying to think of ways we can help without their having to ask.

Maybe you guys can help me come up with ideas for fundraisers in town? I am going to try to talk to Lavonna at Angel Notion to see if they can have any follow-up care at the clinic, to alleviate some of the medical bills they are facing.

I already have tentative plans to have a cooking party where we can store up some meals for the family; Keith is certainly going to have his hands full caring for the two girls. These three people are some of the kindest and most generous people I know and I guess I can't get my head around why bad things keep happening to them.

I also wanted to mention, for those who don't know it, that Mayte and Alex are sisters. Alex is just 19 years old and Mayte is 23.

Just to refresh everyone's memories of who these two girls are, here is Alex and her friend, Temo in the recent Bombero's fundraising 3 legged race:

And here is Mayte and me in the 3 legged race:

Could I buy a Bloody Chicas "Gift Cert" online? If they are too proud to accept financial aid then perhaps this would be a way to channel some funds to them?

Maybe they could apply for a Kiva loan for their business and we could all be lenders?

They aren't too proud to accept financial help, Jimmy-James! They would just never ask for it themselves! Thank you!

I'm sending 'get well wishes' and positive thoughts their way and would do anything I can to help out.

Are there any Bloody Chicas t-shirts for sale?
