Great start! I can see that you two beautiful ladies were shopping for the most important things first! Does the size of the maraca matter?

Susie, you are so great for doing this while I don't have much time to help out! I know it's a lot of work!

Yes, Rick is wonderful for driving. I'm sure Susie will mention how insane the roads get after Palenque. Thanks, again, Rick!

A few comments:
-We missed Adam! Well, I certainly did!
-The market was great! Prices are much less in Palenque than in Playa and even less in San Cristobal and Chamula. Shopping was great and I am kicking myself that I didn't buy more stuff!
- The large group gathered in the zocolo in Palenque was very interesting. They were "jumping for Jesus" as Susie called it. It was a scene from a concert...signs, religious t-shirts, a lot of dancing and moving, etc. And people of all ages. It was pretty interesting to watch. Rick tried to join, but I think he got some laughs!
-Our room ended up being fine. I wasn't too scared since a few other cars showed up. It did feel like we were camping in a cabin. There wasn't anything else in sight other than mountains. Rick even went to the bathroom outside. I guess someone staying there had a dog b/c I woke up to the sound of a dog running back and forth past our room. This is another word ("dog") that we will come to hate, right, Rick?! Well, maybe "chicken" is worse!

Day one
460 miles
Uneventful and seems to be A LOT of driving for a ruin
I would learn to appreciate the flat terrain

Oops... here's a photo I missed from that night. Who knows what this wizened little lady was saying to us...

I just want to also mention that we were in rustic modes ourselves on this trip... no makeup, and for reasons that will become apparent later, hair occasionally unwashed... usually sweaty (except when we were freezing), and just generally grungy. Funny, Rick doesn't look any different than ever , but Sarah and I might not look like you're used to seeing us in the usual pictures!

EDIT: and one more thing... I think we're only going to manage one day of the trip reported each day. This is all I've worked on since I got back Thursday night!

I don't know what you were buying, but it looks like you made the little lady very happy
You and Sarah look beautiful without makeup Susie.
And..............most importantly...................you and Rick could start your own tour company in Playa............I'd be the first to book one. They are always fun and so interesting
