"may your days be filled with sunshine, beer, and sand between your toes." - that'll be my new mantra. Love it. (It's always been "I love geeks" before).
Yeah, skiing here is usually great, but not so good now. Bare patches all over the mountain, mush and slush covered with a thin layer of crust. My car was ENCASED in ice this morning! My fingers were totally numb by the time I got enough scraped off to be able to drive. Cyndy |

Playin' in the water - frozen or not
I live right on the Yampa River with a great deck - that's my beach. It's usable about mid-May - late September. Tubing it is really fun in the summer - the city made a ton of new "holes" that you can surf with your tube if you hit 'em just right. Or you can get knocked out of your tube if you hit them wrong. We already had the world famous "A-hole", named for the ambulance barn beside it, not for any other reason you might be able to think of. Now we've got B-hole, C-hole, D-hole, etc.
Drop me a line next time y'all are in Steamboat... |

You mean Doc Zero?
... as he calls himself these days.
I know him well. I was surgery/radiology scheduler at the hospital here for 7 years, and now working for Orthopaedic surgeons for the last 3.5 years. Doc 0's office is two doors down from me, and I go to him on those rare occasions when I need a doctor. I've partied with him too - that man can PARTY! Did you know he got married?? A shock to all, I believe. Who's your better half and how long ago did he/she work for Doc 0? Mi nombre es Cyndy Jackson. |

Missed the wedding...
I was out of town and had to miss it. A lot of my friends went. Joyce must know Kimberly Mares (I've known her for years - we poured beer together at the free concerts last summer), and maybe Julie Beebee (now Marshall) - one of my best friends, a nurse at the hospital, then at VNA, now in Phoenix, and maybe Paula Rapp. They were a huge presence at the wedding, or so they say. Paula says she was driving Lambert's tractor all over his property after the wedding...

Hey Colorado Guy
Mountain closes this Sunday. That's how I get time off - not allowed during ski season cuz we're too busy. It's a mess anyway - dirt patches, slush and mush,
Strawberry Park is open, but the road will be really muddy for a while. Hey thanks for the offer! I have two house sitters already. They'll probably trash my house (teenagers), but I can survive that. Where you at anyway? |

Snow report
Do we EVER miss out on snow? Yeah, we got it, but the couple of weeks before it snowed, it was a balmy 60 degrees every day. Lovely!!!
So it's a couple of inches of snow on top of melted slush and mud. Yuck. Yes, this is a beautiful town. Nicest people I've ever met. I drove in from Hawaii in 1996 (had my car shipped to LA), on my way to North Carolina, and stuck here. For 11 years now! And I don't particularly like winter! Lived in Texas, Alaska (as a kid), then So Cal for almost 20 years, then Hawaii for 8 years, so winter is NOT in my blood. Hence my fascination with Playa. Highlands Ranch is pretty and close enough to Denver to do city stuff without really being right in the middle of it. |

We fish the Yampa every year when we make our trek to the flyfishing retailer's expo in Denver. We always stay one or two days in Steamboat both ways just to fish. We stay in that inexpensive hotel right on the river, it's dog-friendly and I've forgotten it's name right now. It's close to the bridge for the train (scares the heck out of me every time it rides by).
You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place. LOVE the Tugboat salads and beers!!! |

Tugboat...
Tugboat grilled veggie salad w/grilled steak - Yum!
The train goes by right across the river from me. I don't even hear it any more! It's amazing what you get used to. Yep Steamboat is pretty but the winters are WAY TOO LONG! 4 months I could handle, but 7 - 8 months? Sheesh. It was 20 degrees (F not C) this morning at 7:45 when I left for work. |

Docs and such
I've never met them - mostly I know docs that work here or who have worked here. That's a pretty tight community. Comes in handy when you're sick and need to get in somewhere...
I wrote limericks about some of the docs I worked with when I was in the OR. Limericks are so much more fun when they're about people you know. However, they are filthy (some more than others), so not appropriate for this forum. So you're a Jimmy Buffet fan? It took me a while to figure out what a Parrothead was. I love the song Fins.... |
