Currency v Travellers Cheques-Dollars/Pesos

I know this question is asked often but things change.
What at present is the best option ?
Should I bring Dollars, Pounds or Pesos and are travellers Cheques easy to cash?
I have an account here in the UK that allows me to withdraw money straight from the ATM. Is this a good option?
Thanks in advance

We always take pesos or get them down there at the ATMs. It is convenient and makes the most sense. Since you are from the UK it makes no sense to get US dollars when the currency is pesos.

And travelers checks can be a pain in the neck to cash in some locations, too. The cashiers are VERY picky about the signatures, any creases in the checks, and even the color of the ink.

I just read in the newspaper today about 2 subjects who were detained here for counterfeiting and trying to cash traveler's checks, in the amount of 17 million pesos. The bogus checks looked pretty good, too. Maybe that's why they're so careful?

We prefer to use the ATM's to get pesos. This trip our hotel didn't take plastic so we brought TC's to pay for our stay. We bring some extra TC's just in case but ATM's are the way to go IMO.

We ususally take just enough cash for tips to get by the first day and then use the ATM. We also usually bring a small amount of traveler checks just in case the ATM's are on strike for a day Or we simply can't remember our pin

The best way I found with the best exchange rate was to use my debit card to get funds at the ATM. Be sure you check with you bank to find out if there are any fees for doing this and also it helps to let them and any credit cards you may use know that you will be in Mexico so there will be charges from there And always take a back up method so that you will have cash available no matter what.....

ATMs definitely...

backup TC's yes. The current fee posted at the banks in Playa are $3.00 per transaction and that's exactly what we paid in January/February. Since returning, we received a notice from our bank stating they "might" institute a fee of 1% in addition to this.

We use TD Canada Trust.

Some cash as a reserve, and ATM machines are the only way to go IMHO
