Sorry about the name, I must be dyslexic. I'll just call you Cuff from now on, if you don't mind.As for the vanilla I don't know if that was a good price or not. I just fell in love with the bottle. Hubby got tequila, I got vanilla in a cute bottle. We both came home so happy

Babaloo, at the risk of being scorned because I did not check the link, I have a question about this part of your posting -
Quote: Although there are fifty or more kinds of vanilla plant, the only one with a fruit suitable for use in flavoring extract is Vanilla planifolia, so called by botanists for its flat leaves. It is a native of the valley of Mazantla, in Vera Cruz, Mexico, seemingly the only place where conditions of soil and climate suffice to bring it to its highest point of cultivation. The other vanillas, native to various parts of Spanish America, are fit only for use in perfumery and soap, because, though aromatic, they are rank in taste. -------------------- Ready? I have read that there is a LOT of bogus and crappy vanilla extract available in Mexico and, as a consequence, I would probably ONLY buy dried beans. Someone has even told me there is a place in PDC that sells the beans. BUT . . . your post has made me a bit afraid. Does anyone know if there are beans available that are suitable for cooking? (My creme brulee is waiting . . .) |

If I run out of Mexican vanilla, I buy the vanilla from Williams Sonoma.
It is also available at TJMaxx most of the time at a fraction of the cost. They have the beans as well. I've always heard vanilla from Madagascar was the best. I buy it in Mexico just because I'm there and it's good and the price is right. The other place to find great vanilla is on eBay. I bought my last bunch from Mexico on eBay. I use a lot of vanilla. I bake all the time. Good Luck enjoy your trip

This person is trying to sell there OWN vanilla. Perhaps the reader should keep that in mind when reading this article. I don't know anything about vanilla, just adding my two cents. If I sell brand X and I write an article warning about the DANGERS of Brand Y, I may not be the most credible source on the subject. |

vanilla
Hi Guys
We have had great luck with the vanilla you can buy at Ah Cacao, the little chocolate bar on Constiuyentes. My friend makes yummy chocolate truffles with the chocolate we get there,so its always a stop on our trip. They have the bottled vanilla and also the bean. I dont remember the brand name but its their house brand and its awesome! |
